Visited The Royal Tandoori in Scarborough tonight. It is quite a nice place. Well decorated and very clean.
We ordered pappadom's a starter, and main course with a selection of breads.
The pappadom's came with the usual run of the mill pickle platter. Mint sauce, mango chutney and Pataks Lime pickle.
We then had a Sheek Kebab, and Chicken Tikka starter. Both were actually quite tasteless, with not a great deal of flavour.
We then had Chicken Vindaloo with Pilau rice and a Haandi Chicken Bhuna with Mushroom Pilau.
The Chicken Vindaloo was not bad, but very acidic and bitter tasting. Something wrong with the balance there. This is normally my favourite dish, but in this case it was quite disappointing.
The Haandi Chicken Bhuna had to be returned on arrival as it was swimming in grease, to the point that it was quite inedible. The waiter, was quite apologetic and duly took it away to be recooked.
The second attempt was much better and my partner quite enjoyed it.
We also had a Keema nan, Chapatti, a plain Paratha, which were all good.
The food overall was average at best.
The atmosphere in the restaurant descended into quite an ugly environment on the arrival of two exceptionally intoxicated couples who were very loud and continuously used profanity throughout the conversation /argument they were having with each other. It did not help that the staff continued to serve them alcohol throughout the duration of their stay.
We were actually quite happy when the manager informed us that they were closing at 10pm, and we paid our bill for £63.00 and left without finishing our meals.
Not a pleasant experience and we will not be returning...
Read moreSad to leave a negative review for a place I have enjoyed visiting many times but this time it was a disaster from start to finish. Booked a table by phone late afternoon. Turned up to a packed restaurant and staff claiming that they had no knowledge of our booking. Highly embarrassing as I had told the friends we were taking how good it was. Waited about half an hour for a table. Waited ages for order to be taken. Popadoms arrived quickly but starters took half an hour to arrive. Wait for the main course was nearly an hour and when it arrived every dish looked exactly the same. I ordered a dansak but this one came with large lumps of mashed potato in it. I've never had that anywhere and I have eaten this dish at this restaurant more than once. They must have changed the chef because not one dish was up to its usual standard. This used to be my favourite Indian in Scarborough but I think I'll try some others. Starters and mains took 4 hours to order arrive and eat. Very disappointing experience. * in reply to your comment....that's what you said when I came that I had booked the wrong restaurant and I showed you my dialled numbers to prove I had booked with you that day. I definitely came to you as I have done many times before. Not good customer services to blame the customer for a poor...
Read moreWe had a booking confirmed days in advance for 9 people but on arrival was given a table for 6 (with one extra chair). It was implied the table next to us would be finishing soon and we would then have their table then, even though they were still eating mains with half a bottle of wine left to drink. They took half of our drinks order and then walked away. I felt judged for ordering a bottle of wine rather than a glass, they refused to give us a jug of water and questioned why we wanted tap water alongside soft drinks. Staff were rude and made us feel unwelcome. They pressured us to order poppadoms even though two people in the group were standing without chairs. When we told the waiter we wanted to wait to order until we were comfortable he laughed at us. After half an hour, when the table next to us had still not been given the bill and our drinks had not come yet we decided to leave and go to Scarborough Tandoori (highly recommend). When we told them we were leaving they said ‘okay’ with no apology. We have since been made aware of their one star food...
