We went to this restaurant the other year and it was totally underwhelming. I italiano and my fiance English also speak Italian and she no Italian food very much. The food was very so so (molto cósi cósi). But more issue was the elderly lady working there whom was rude after we asked for something small (maybe for chips instead of potatoes or something really minor), she was stressed and edgy and seemed to be really deficient in magnesium or hormones and made us feel very stressed and not relaxed at all and that we throw money away for nothing at our Xmas time!! Then we try to get back better atmosphere but my fiance is very upset, this is a rare meal for us and was a big treat for us to go some place and we went because of the rosettes to eat quality and receive quality service when we got bad upsetting service here. Worst we tryed to befriend and chat to the wife of owner who seem scared after I said I was also Italian from centre of Palermo. We don't know did her husband have some problem in Italy before live there but for goodness sake we were just for Xmas a special meal further which we obv paid for after. Whole experience upsetting for my fiance and me. We would not recommend and if we move to Scarborough we will not go back to Lanterna. Very expensive for food that you can get better in pub like Wetherspoons the same or veey similar quality. Then the service? Also just because you do not go in designer clothes they are nervous of you like they think you will run without pay. Discriminating. Upsetting and rude we felt. Dispiace tante ma non possiamo reccomando...
Read moreOk, where do I start? A minor thing was that the restaurant was a little on the chilly side, so maybe it could do with the heating on a little earlier. Lanterna has a confusing feel. The restaurant itself has a family atmosphere, but the staff are a mix of characters. All are professional and courteous, but some are relaxed, and others feel like they're trying too hard. No sooner had we arrived, but we were delivered a speech about specials, about 6-8 dishes, some starters, some mains, in some detail. A little overwhelming to be honest. Then we were giving the menus to digest. By the time we'd been through the menu, I'd forgotten most of the specials. Don't let this put you off though, as the food is definitely the star. So, you can pick anything and not be disappointed.
This isn't your typical Italian restaurant. It's not tomato everything. It's above average price range, but it's way above average food too, so worth it. The simple answer is, we'll definitely be returning. So if you've not been, give it a try, and let the food...
Read moreThis has to be a new favourite of mine, a quirky little restaurant with friendly, interested and interesting staff. Having read the reviews I wasn't sure what to expect but was totally delighted as where the other visitors. The food was just amazing, most of us had a chicken dish ranging from a rosemary and garlic fillet to one with gorgonzola and Parma ham and all were delighted with the variety of taste. One of the group had fish image cheese sauce and as a fish lover was over the moon with range of flavours in the one dish. We all sampled each others dishes and expressed equal delight with them as we did with the wonderful bottle of prosecco. The 2 ladies who were taking the orders were brilliant and one spent a fair amount of time talking to us about our accents (east Lancashire), the world cup and the disappointment of her Italian owner at the absence of his team from the competition. We love Scarborough and will be going back there next year so will also definitely be visiting this wonderful...
