We were told Rennards sells the best fish and chips in Scarborough. Admittedly, we were told by the lovely lady who works there, but decided to risk it and grab a "small" haddock, chips and peas special for £6.95. Literally half the price of a fish supper on the seafront. How bad can it be? I did ask for Cod instead of Haddock as they were the same price on the menu, and was surprisingly given a fairly chunky piece of cod. Certainly not a child's portion, expertly filletted, and correctly deboned. I got home with my paper-wrapped box of still-steaming, delicious food. Reminding me of the good old days when you could taste the fish and tell what type it was. Chips were at least twice-cooked and fluffy inside. Peas were perfectly mushy and tasted of actual peas. Half a scoop of scraps deployed in the corner of the box for a little extra crunch. Did they mistake me for a food critic and pull out all the stops? Probably not. Maybe it just IS the best little chippy in...
Read moreHugs and Kisses to the Wonderful People at Rennards Fish and Chips in Scarborough England! Thank You for THE BEST fish, chips and mushy peas that I ever had, and I don't care for deep fried foods (I prefer my fish poached, grilled and pan fried with mash or rice and salad). But coming to England I had to try Real fish and chips. To be fair, I tried 2 other places so that I could have a comparison, one was a fancy restaurant (way more expensive) and they just didn't meet the food I had at Rennards. And the hard working folks there are ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL PEOPLE! If I could, I would fly from Canada, every time I craved their food. P.S We ate there twice and let me tell you...BIG PORTIONS, I couldn't finish mine, but the fish was still AMAZING cold. THANK YOU Rennards, Be safe, be well and be Blessed. Canako and Colin...
Read moreSo, second time trying this within a year. First time was last July 2024. We couldn't eat the chips as they were hard and like putting nails in your mouth. This time, I just ordered large chips to test them and they looked amazing as I put salt and vinegar on them. But, the vinegar just ran off the chip. Just don't know why. Then, we tried the chips. Disappointed once again. Im sorry to report. Service excellent and friendly staff which I think maybe new? But they were so sharp. Pointy ends and sharp edges. The fish looked amazing again but I just don't get it. Why do they hurt so much when you eat them? We all agreed again we won't be back. Obviously were in the minority due the great reviews but we just can't eat them. Catch 55 and the one up from that I think its Seaview chipshop is so much...
