Such a detailed and evocative memorial to all those men and women involved in defending Britain during WWII. Unfortunately it was pouring with rain on a cold, February day, when I saw this monument I'd previously read about and seen videos of. It was, nonetheless, worth stopping and taking a moment to appreciate the quality of work which produced this memorial, and the stories it reminds us of are important and worthy of memorialising.

The views from this part of the Thames include Big Ben, The London Eye and New Scotland Yard, all of them well recognisable as iconic points of interest.

This is a public monument, and there is no need to purchase tickets, nor was there a queue on the day I visited, but then again, it was pouring rain in the tourist off season!

Definitely well worth a visit during your...

The monument was the brainchild of Bill Bond, MBE, the founder of the Battle of Britain Historical Society. He raised funds and notably the British Government did not donate which caused public anger. The sculptor was Paul Day who has done a marvellous job with much detail On 18 September 2005, the 65th anniversary of the Battle, the sculpture was unveiled on the Victoria Embankment, a permanent memorial to 'The Few'. The unveiling ceremony took place in the presence of HRH Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. A great piece of sculpture commemorating some extremely brave...

This monument is located along Victoria Embankment along with a great man statues, monuments and memorials to heroes and figures of United Kingdom. The Battle of Britain Monument is a three dimensional sculpture. It doesn't just celebrate the famed few who defend the skies from Axis attacks, but also those who lived through the attacks too. The centrepiece of the monument is an airman running to battle, not to be missed. At the back and sides lists the names of the airmen who died in defence of the country.
