I'm always passing by this place, wondering what it's like inside. Last week, the door was open, so I had a look. There was quite a busy café & social scene happening in there, with little tables and comfy seating covering the whole of the main church floor, with reassuring feel-good music playing. Definitely a community church. So maybe I just tend to pass here during "non-café hours".
There's a second internal balcony level, with glass safety barriers, and a glass floor, accessed by a spiral staircase in one sub-tower, the bridge giving access to the other sub-tower, and then the spire. Read moreI went to a Christmas concert at St. Michael's Church and the building was pretty full. We had a wonderful choir, which was hugely entertaining, and the audience joined in many of the carols. The church had done a good job of laying out all the chairs and tables and provided maximum room for this concert. They also provided coffee, tea, cake, and wine in their cafe. I think they would have probably done pretty good business that evening, it's certainly appears St Michael's Church do everything they can to accommodate people's needs. I would recommend that you contact them if you have any events etc. One slight problem might be that there are not many toilets easily available...
Read moreAs a coffee shop it looks interesting and offers great space and quiet in the city centre. However this old church is now full of tables and chairs with people eating and drinking coffee. There is little evidence of any devotional activity other than a small circle of chairs surrounding a lectern. The juxtaposition of the cafe with the historic, religious, funereal plaques that surround its walls seemed strange.
