Title: A Clear Case of Bait and Switch at SpringHill Suites
Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ (1 out of 5 stars)
I usually strive to focus on the positive aspects of my travel experiences, however, my recent stay at the SpringHill Suites by Marriott Albuquerque North/Journal Center left me with no choice but to share my disappointment with fellow travelers. The appalling lack of customer service I experienced was shocking, particularly for an establishment operating under the respected Marriott brand.
Upon booking and pre-paying for a specific room type several weeks in advance, I was looking forward to a comfortable stay. Imagine my surprise when I checked in and was led to a room that was significantly below the standard I had reserved and paid for. The room I was given was not only smaller but lacked the amenities that were advertised for the room type I had booked.
Even though it was obvious that the room given to me was worth significantly less per night than what I had paid, the front desk staff were completely unsympathetic to my predicament. I explained the situation, fully expecting them to rectify the mistake, only to be met with a dismissive "take it or leave it" response. There was no offer of a refund for the difference in room rate, no attempt to accommodate me in the room I had actually reserved or an upgrade for the inconvenience. I was left with the feeling that I was merely a transaction number, rather than a valued guest.
The hospitality industry thrives on trust and respect for customers, both of which were glaringly absent during my interaction with the staff at SpringHill Suites. This blatant bait and switch tactic is not only unethical but potentially illegal, and I would strongly advise against booking at this property.
There are countless hotels in Albuquerque that prioritize the comfort and satisfaction of their guests, and I regret not choosing one of those establishments for my stay. With so many options available, I implore fellow travelers to think twice before giving their hard-earned money to an establishment that clearly has no regard for honesty or their customers' satisfaction.

Read moreSpringhill Suites is a new favorite Marriott brand when traveling for work. I did enjoy the Springhill Suites amenities with the suite and the location was perfect for my needs.
There were a couple surprising disappointments. My room appeared to maybe have some wall damage and during the repair, they put wall paper back up in a botched wall paper job. The bathroom had tiles missing and loose from the trim. By no stretch of the means is this a deal breaker in considering futures stays, but it was something I would expect to see in a cheap hotel brand.
The most disappointing part of my stay was the incident with the window and my hand getting stuck with the window locked in place unable to move. The latch wouldn't release, the window wouldn't slide open and I was stuck. After I was able to free myself I reported the issue to the front desk agent was super awesome about it and told me she would inform her superiors. She fixed me up with some first aid items that held me over the night. During a time when the travel industry has been hit hard, you'd think service would be shining. I received no call, no text, no email, nothing. I had to report it again to Tim who really didn't seem equipped to handle a situation like this. Tim even went out of his way to tell me that because the windows are so tall, they don't slide well and have to be gently staggered shut. Brad told me was sorry which I suppose was nice to have that acknowledgement. In my opinion, Sorry would have been proactive to the situation when someones hand had been slammed in a window, and held hostage by your building due to a flaw in the building materials and construction standards. I was in shock due to the immediate pain experienced, panicked I wouldn't be able to get it out and had no way of contacting anyone for help. I had to squeeze the window enough and pull my hand out resulting in hemorrhaging for over an hour. Sorry would have been reaching out asking if there was anything you could do, or offering a proactive approach to fixing the issue. I've never experienced something like this before in a hotel and I'm kind of shocked it could really even happen at all. It shouldn't have happened. I was not able to complete 50% of my business a result of...
Read moreRooms are clean and nice but cluttered. Way too much furniture. Great place if you’re on your own or just a couple, but not ideal for kids. Every time you walk past the closet, day or night, the motion sensor light comes on. There is no way of disabling it. If you hit the wrong light switch in the bathroom, day or night, the Bluetooth speaker in the mirror (which would otherwise be a cool feature) chimes, no doubt disturbing anyone else sleeping in the room. The 2 light switches in the bathroom are identical, beside each other, and there are no instructions on how to use the Bluetooth, nor a way of disabling the chiming. As with most hotels the rooms are super dark with no central light or obvious switches on any of the other lights. Several of the sockets in our room were not functioning, I assumed this was connected to one of the light switches, but couldn’t figure out the correct position.
If you want a time in the pool, you should probably book in advance of your stay. Grateful they are scheduling the pool for covid sake... but just wish we had prebooked it. When I called in advance to check if the pool was operational, there was no mention of needing the book a slot.
They have signs saying mask wearing is required, but they aren’t enforcing it.
Breakfast is good. The system of ordering the night before and picking up is good too... but the instructions on how to collect your hot items could be clearer.
Muscle car besides our van in the parking lot was broken into during the night. Window smashed. Anecdotal evidence that crime happens in every neighborhood, not just low-income ones.
Heating and cooling system not very responsive. Super slow to...
