This is a Target. It's not a two-storey Target. It's not a Super-Deluxe-Max-Bigger-Than-Every-Other-Target-You-Have-Ever-Visited. It's just a Target, albeit a new and very clean one. Yes, it is taller than the other Targets in Albuquerque. That's because it has parking under the store. But many people seem to think this is a Target-of-a-Different-Colour.
Overheard at the cash register:
Cashier: "Did you find everything you were looking for?" Customer: "Well, yes, I suppose so. I just expected there to be different stuff here. A different selection than the other Targets." Cashier: "..."
And yes, there is cart escalator. If you are ever bored and want cheap entertainment, just go watch the people who come to watch the cart escalator.
I like Targets in general. They are my favourite general retail store. They tend to be clean, brightly lit, and generally employ pleasant and reasonably intelligent people.
Plus I think Targets are pretty. (Seriously!) From an urban point of view I like the architecture and colours very much.
The main attraction of this Target for me is the location; being in Uptown it is close to both home and work. It doesn't have a larger selection than other Targets - it is just a Target after all - but it does have the items I have come to expect, from toiletries to cleaning products to groceries.
The under-facilities parking is very nice, especially as parking can be a premium in Uptown. The spaces are generous and there are a lot of them.
This Target has a café - your general retail store-with-fast food fair - including a Pizza Hut Express. It's not great, but it is good. And convenient.
There is also a Starbucks. Which I find terribly amusing because there is a Starbucks literally across the street. You can order a nice Affogato Vanilla Bean Frappuccino and then sit and stare down at the other Starbucks and wonder what all those people ordered.
Overall, this is a nice addition to the retail in Uptown. It adds a lot to the Uptown shopping experience. And like most Targets it is a pleasant...
Read moreWhat the heck happened to Target? I used to love this store but I tried to buy socks for my hubby and they were locked up in a box and there were no staff members around to help open up the box. You would think I was buying him diamond-studded socks made out of the finest linen in the world. But no he just needed regular socks and I couldn't get them without tracking down a staff member and waiting forever. Target is supposed to be fast and convenient but now it's the oppposite!
They're also supposed to be a good deal but their prices have gone up so much that it's honestly cheaper for me to buy things at Kohl's or Nordstrom Rack, and the quality of the Target items is really lacking compared to the price.
Also, any time I try to browse their books or video games I get accosted by some young guy or another trying to get me to switch my cell phone plan; it's annoying, I'm just there to browse and decide what to buy but it's like Target doesn't want you in their store anymore- not to buy anything, since it's all locked up, and not to look at anything unless you are going to get a cell phone plan instead.
Finally, when I do manage to find a staff member they don't have good customer service and just seem annoyed to have to be working here (which I totally get- I would hate it too but I'm just trying to find/buy something) and then there are mean-looking security guards looking like they're in the military glaring at everyone as if they think we're all stealing stuff. It's a horrible atmosphere now and used to be a fun, family-friendly place. I have stopped going here and I no longer recommend them.
Instead, go to local independent toy stores like in the North Valley, antique/thrift stores or farmer's market/fall fest type places and buy as much as you can locally from friendly people with good quality products who aren't looking at you like you're annoying them, like you're going to steal from them or like you're the perfect "target" (get it?!) for their cell...
Read moreThis is a pretty good Target store located in the Uptown Shopping District. Target is Target but this one has some interesting add-ons which left me somewhat baffled on a few different fronts. I like the fact they have a Starbucks right by the entrance/exit.The first thing that grabbed my attention was as I was carrying my coffee toward the exit escalators I look out a huge window facing another Starbucks located at the Uptown Mall across the street. OK that's fine... so when you are leaving the Starbucks at this Target, you stare right at another Starbucks. That's right 2 Starbucks across the street from each other...uh huh... Another thing about this Target I liked is they have a FREE underground parking lot with escalators, which are nice for the winters I guess.... in New Mexico.Side line: last year I spent the winter in the Twin Cities and froze my bunz off going from the car through a huge parking lot counting each brutal step I took until I reached Targets' front doors in 47 degrees below zero. Target's corporate headquarters located in Minneapolis might think about installing these underground parking and escalators....where it's REALLY cold. I digress.....I really like the concept they are pretty cool. It's a a side by side escalator system, one for you and one for your cart. That is right. When you are headed out the door, the only way down is stairs in the middle or the escalators. Not sure if they have an elevator. You will have to think fast here folks. Put your cart on the moving stairwell to the right , you step on the one to the left then ride on down! Your lovely cart full of goodies will be riding by your side all the way down and waiting for you at the bottom. It must be fun during the holidays. I never saw one of these so...
