St. Mary's Catholic Church — Attraction in Aspen

Hi, As St Mary’s is undergoing renovation, here’s some useful info that I heard from Fr. Hilton last Sunday:

Next Sunday, March 4, is the last expected Mass held at the Methodist Aspen Community Church (200 Bleek St. @11:00), as Mass will be held at St Mary’s again after that (@10:00).

It was nice to find a place to go to Church during our trip. I was surprised to find that most attendants were [extremely kind] locals. I hope more visitors will make time to go. I always enjoy attending Mass at St. Mary's whenever I'm in Aspen over a weekend. I'll never forget the day back years ago where I spent most of a Saturday trying (stupidly) to climb North Maroon Peak solo, in the rain and snow. I eventually wisely gave up on my ascent, and turned around. Once back down on safer ground, I was cold, wet, and tired. I changed into drier, and more presentable clothes, and then headed to Mass. I couldn't have walked into a more peaceful and inviting space (not to mention warm and dry!) than St. Mary's. It was the place that I was supposed to be at that late Saturday afternoon...

To David Hoffman - I think you mean Ad orientem… maybe you didn’t get the memo re: Vatican II and thus Novus Ordo? Also, since March 1994 the church has permitted altar girls… If you are really Catholic, than you are obedient to the church - understanding that the Catholic church is under God’s guidance. It’s interesting, I have found “TradCaths" to fetishize superficial aspects of Catholicism while completely ignoring its core teachings.
