I have wanted a stereo system for a long time. I love good sound quality and a nice bump. Went to car toys early November 2019 and was approved for a credit card. I purchased the best interior clean package to be done before stereo install so as to save from having anything removed later on. Then purchased a new dash plate, pioneer touch screen stereo, amp, custom sub box and jl audio 12"woofer... Totaling upwards of $3,500 dollars. Cleaning and install took an entire day. They said sub box wouldn't be in for a week so I scheduled it for two weeks out. When it came time for install sub still wasn't in but I decided to install everything else in preparation. Before it was 100% they had me set up a few things on the stereo. I immediately noticed that they tore the rubber boot on my shifter column which the installer got indignant about as if I was lying. They said they would order me another one though... They said they would look into the box and call me with an update. I waited a week with no call so I decided to call but they still had no info. Once again said they'd call me back which never happened again. Called back 3 days later they told me they'd check into it again. Finally getting back to me this time saying it would be there that day and I could come in after work for the install. When I get there no one knows anything about it and the installer seems irritated he has to put it in so late in the day. I hadn't driven my truck much since the stereo install so once I got the sub I sat in the parking lot and played with it a bit.
Everything seemed ok. The next day I go to roll my passenger window down and notice that when I press the button it somehow gets feedback and clicks through the speakers. That next week I have a friend ride in my truck. Now since ive owned it no one rides in my truck so I keep the passenger air bag off. I go to turn it on and it's already on. Immediately I know car toys turned it on because I do not. After he leaves I turn it off and my air bag warning light comes on and I turn it back on and the light goes off. Subsequently right where they installed the USB port and bass nob. Which also didn't work when it was originally installed and im the one who had to point it out. Next on my 6 hour long drive from Brookings Oregon back to my home in hillsboro I notice that my speaker voice sound keeps going in and out but the bass still sounds in my driver side door.
When I get home I call car toys and tell them about the problems and make an appointment. They tell me to come in first thing Sunday morning so I do. They ask if I am waiting or if I have a ride like they always do and I answer that I will be waiting. I walk around check things out again and keep checking on my truck to see if it is in yet or not. 3 hours in and still hasn't left the parking lot. 5 hours in still in parking lot finally 6 hours later they come to say they're looking at it. Only 30 minutes later they come to say they fixed the clicking, the wires were good too my door speaking and they never heard the speaker cut out. I remind them about the shifter boot. Installer tells me "oh uh... yea I haven't ordered that yet." When i leave and get home i go into my back seat to retrieve some things and notice my binder and papers just shoved off my seat on the floor board in a mess from the installer. Now im starting to get a little perturbed. So i start checking more. The clicking they said they fixed... Not fixed. Next morning guess what door speaker cutting in and out and getting more frequent. This was Dec 8th 2019
That next week I go back in. I talk to a manager this time which seemed very nice. Assured me they would take care of me. Once again asking about the shifter boot... Installed says oh yea i ordered that. They tell me they'll call when it's in should be soon but they will call with an update. I tell them that's ok even if it takes a few days more lets make sure it's in and I can hopefully just get everything in working order all at the same time.

Read moreI dropped my truck off yesterday morning 2/11/22 at about 9:30am and purchased the ultimate interior and exterior detail, I also paid for the additional pet hair removal which they gave me at a discounted $50. When I picked up my truck around 7pm I noticed the windows were not cleaned properly and had to run back to have them Re do the windows. Then when I began to head home around 7:30 for the second time I started noticing issues in the detail. This is hands down the absolute worst detail I have ever had. My truck is only a year old and when I got home It was easy to see I was left with more stains and issues than when I went there in the first place. $450 for their ultimate detail with pet hair removal. I am taking my truck back first thing this morning to have these issues resolved. I will post an update.
Update 2/12/22 I dropped my truck back off this morning around 10. The manager was super friendly with me and told me he would get it corrected. Said it would be and hour or so. I told the manager not to worry about a time limit and to just call me when it was ready and he said it would be done today. Around 3pm I was curious how things were going because I had not received a call so I reached out. After an extensive time on hold I was told they had not gotten to it yet. They asked if I could wait until tomorrow which agitated me. I told him he had my truck all day yesterday and now all day today and you are asking me for another day, hindsight I should have made them give me a reasonable time. I requested to speak to a manger and he placed me on hold for 10 minutes before picking the phone back up. He told me my truck would be ready at 7pm and they would call me. This was aggravating to me because I didn’t trust them to pick it up at night again. He convinced me everything would be fine and to work with them so I agreed once more. When I arrived at 7 pm they told me my truck was ready, unfortunately, it was not. There seemed to be no attempt to correct the smudges on the front and rear bumpers and headlights and taillights, even my truck bed still had granules in it from some roofing shingles I had in there from a couple weeks ago. There was no attempt to sweep or clean my truck bed. The interior was also still dirty with dust/ dirt in the cup holders, door panels, center consul, around the plastic on all doors, vents still were not cleaned, and even the dashboard and instrument panel still had oily smudges and marks from their cleaner that look like stains. I was asked to leave my truck overnight so they could fix tomorrow. It should also be noted they offer a pet hair removal for an additional $50 and there is still clear signs of pet hair on the back seats. I was told by rep that pet hair removal is not perfect and it’s impossible to get all the pet hair out. I told him he shouldn’t offer it as an added cost then. Rep agreed to reimburse for pet hair removal.I will send another...

I have had lots of experiences with various automotive shops in my lifetime, but car toys has been consistently unpleasant. While I attribute some of my experience to circumstances beyond their control, the things I dislike the most are their pushy sales and unorganized service shop.
In my second to last experience, their disorganization cost me two days without my vehicle and several Uber rides to and from work. There was never any accountability or even apology for the inconvenience. Although I was frustrated, my new remote start, stereo, and rerouted back up cam were great, so I chose to accept the annoyance and enjoy my new feel ride.
My recent and unfortunate experience was the result of an up sale and possible lie. My stereo had failed after only two years and I was told I needed a new one. After selecting one and opting for the extended warranty contract, my budget had been stretched by double. My children and I left the vehicle and walked around the shopping center to kill time.
After returning, I was updated that now my camera had also failed and I would need to purchase a new one. This new update would now push my budget by 3-4 times my initial price. I instead opted to have my original stereo put back in, which I thankfully kept for two years and remembered to bring with me.
This decision was met with hesitation as this would reduce my total cost from almost $800 down to an install fee of $115. I asked if this would improve my camera to which I was told it would still not work as it had failed. I went with this option anyways as I still had other vehicle maintenance to pay for that day.
Well guess what, after receiving my vehicle back, the old factory stereo still works and so does the back up camera. I don’t want to believe I was lied to in order for car toys to make extra sales, but I’m pretty disappointed in how I felt when I left there.
All of the people I’ve dealt with in person there have been nice, but there’s always a sense of they have something else to sell you. While I can do lots of generic vehicle projects, electronics is not my expertise. So this place is a necessary evil in that I needed their help with the remote start, but now I wish I had researched more to find a better shop. Maybe a more local spot.
If you’re looking for help with car audio things and this is the only place you can get to, you might have a decent experience. My biggest piece of advice would be to do some research before going in so you don’t get pressured into buying trash products. Otherwise, take the time to look for a different company to trust your vehicle to.
I have been steering my coworkers and potential customers away from this place since my first experience and hope this review helps save someone the headache that comes with bringing your...
