Downgraded from 4 to 3 after second visit. After completing many other rooms, this was a let-down, especially at $30 per person. There are no secondary, hidden rooms, magnetic locks, or high-end immersive visual/sound effects. Each room is a simple, single, open room with printed murals on the wall, a few pieces of furniture, and then or so locked cases and containers. We've visited a few businesses like this, and it's still possible to have a great time, but this location just doesn't leave us satisfied, victory or not.
1st Visit: Brianna was a terrific host. We were sufficiently challenged and had fun (despite not quite making it), but the ambience is very limited with mostly posters and a couple pieces of furniture. The story (Alcatraz) was fun and had some neat historical documents included, but the single room was an abundance of padlocked containers with many puzzles simply requiring a lot of looking for words and numbers (which is clearly not our forte). No surprises to be found and just a little problem solving. This is probably best for newer escape room fans.
2nd Visit: Went back for Sherlock's Library. The story narrative was a little weaker and once again involved a lot of information at one time with trying to apply combinations to a bunch of padlocked containers without much logic to tie them together. Even the game master couldn't explain the logic for one of the puzzles. It's already bad enough that there is no hint system without calling the game master into the room to recap where you are in the process and ask them for help, but if they can't remember how to help, the clock just keeps on ticking while you all try to figure it out. This room also had two wooden puzzle boxes. If you've seen them before, maybe you can open them quickly, but otherwise you waste quite a bit of precious time or limited hints in order to get them open. We completed both levels, but it's a bit odd to have time remaining and then decide to keep going or to just stop (when you can see there are three or so more locks but just labeled...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe booked the Escape from Alcatraz game for 5 people. First impression was not good, as the inside of the business was 80-85 degrees in temperature, with no reason given by the hosts. The store space has simply been divided into small square rooms for each game, so don't expect any complexity to the rooms. It's just the one small sad room that you're in with 2-3 posters on the wall as the main decoration. This is one of those escape rooms where all you do is open various types of padlocked metal boxes. Despite the heat and the lack of complexity, we tried to have a good attitude about it as we started our game. Unfortunately, about 2 or 3 padlocks in, we just couldn't figure it out after about 8 minutes of work on a specific lock, so we asked for a clue. The employee then said it was the combination which was our first guess. Then they realized that the padlock was on the wrong box. They agreed to give us back a few minutes since it was their mistake. Unfortunately, this kept happening with wrong padlocks on boxes. Finally with about 10 minutes to go with about 3 boxes left, we asked for another clue. The employee looked at the box we were working on and said it was impressive that we managed to get to the final box without having done the other 2 boxes. No, it's not that we are geniuses. The clues were simply arranged incorrectly, which resulted in us being directed to the final box but without the clues necessary to solve it. Because the clues were in such poor order, the employee opened the other two boxes to give us the info necessary to solve the final lock. I get that it's hard to compete in this space, but this escape room is clearly trying to follow an overnight turnkey money making plan. If you like opening padlocks, this is your spot. If you want complex escape rooms with multiple rooms per game and something other than a series of locked metal...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI will start off with a positive comment. Our hostess was very nice and helpful and I liked the opportunity to take pictures at the end. However, for the price of these tickets I expected the actual rooms to be at the caliber of other escape rooms I've gone to in the past. Meaning I expected the room to look like actual effort had been put in making these rooms look like the actual environment that the game is themed as. The room I was in just had a few props and posters on the wall with various boxes that need to be unlocked. Also, these do not feel like actual rooms, but instead small cramped spaces. The walls do not go all the way up to the ceiling, so you can hear what's going on in neighboring spaces. I see in a previous response that the manager said that this is to prevent claustrophobia, however, if these were actually decent-sized rooms and not cramped spaces maybe an individual wouldn't be prone to being claustrophobic. It was just me an my husband so we were able to work with it, but there is no way I could imagine what it would be like to be stuffed in that room with 6 other people. The clues for my room didn't really didn't really help us learn more about the storyline, but instead seemed like random bits of information to point us to unlocking boxes. I just think the price of these tickets don't match the level of work put into these rooms. I would only come back if the price of tickets were reduced by $10 to...
