My family has been coming to Branson for 27 years. This show was our first experience with Grand Country. We were trying to find something entertaining for our 2, 4, and 7 year old. Upon arriving, the women working at the box office were not friendly. At first I brushed this off as they are human, but it definitely added to the overall experience (or lack there of). Once we were walking into the theater and getting seated the managers (I’m assuming) were friendly, and the performers came around to greet the kids. The show started out with an introduction of each performer. In the first 3 minutes of it beginning one of the performers said something along the lines of “the sexiest man on stage” (obviously a joke, but this was the wrong place for using the word “sexiest” or “sexy” as this is a show geared towards children). After this short intro they started with minigames for the children and asked for volunteers to come on stage. The first minigame was all about pooping and farting. There were a few more mini games, and then another themed around pooping where the kids played cornhole, but it was throwing poop bags into the toilet hole… I guess? I will say my 4 year old thinks pooping and farting is hilarious, but it was just weird considering we thought we were at a show that would mostly be about pets. My 7 year old started crying wondering where the pets were (some of the minigames had fake dogs and fake fish). We were starting to think not a single real animal would be seen. After 25 minutes they finally brought the first dog out. The dogs were great. He even grabbed the attention of my 2 year old immediately. If I remember correctly, another dog was brought out afterwards. But the dogs were only on stage for I believe 8 minutes. At this point I was holding my 2 year old behind the audience in the middle section and the manager came up to me and asked me to move because she was watching the show in the back. Not a big deal, just thought this was strange considering she works there. After this they announced an INTERMISSION which I thought was crazy considering we had barely even seen any dogs. We thought about leaving during intermission, but did not want to disappoint the kids and the other half of me assumed more animals would appear in the second half. The second half again began with more mini games. I think we were an hour and 15 minutes into the show when finally the dogs were brought out again. At this point my 7 year old and 4 year old were over all the “fluff” and filler games of the show and were having more fun in the bathroom so we left. Assuming the dogs remained on stage until the end of the show (that was an hour and 45 minutes long), the dogs were MAYBE out for 30 minutes, 15 minute intermission, and 1 hour of minigames.
Once we left the show we headed over the the candy shoppe and again the worker had no clue about anything. I asked if there were any products not containing wheat and he just said “uuuuhhhhh” and shrugged his shoulders. Just no effort in helping us look for something or saying hey I do not know the answer to that but let me check with someone else here who would know more.
Overall a horrible experience and a waste of money. I never write reviews, so coming here and writing this means a lot. I truly do not want other families to be...
Read moreI will start by saying my 3.5 year old loved this.
I originally planned to purchase tickets for this show, and decided against it based on a few reviews. $100 was steep and the reviews I read said they sold $10 tickets to locals to fill up the seats and that caused issues hearing and being able to enjoy the show.
I randomly won tickets at a donation event for the show; I called to make reservations and they said when I called in if I upgraded to the front few rows for $5 a ticket (they pick the kids in the front row to be part of the show) not. The case. When I say I tried to get her on, I even hinted at it when the show host came around during intermission when he asked my husband if he wanted to be part of the show. They picked more adults to be part of the show than anything. This show is supposed to be for kids. The little girl next to me was trying so hard to go on stage and cried at the end. (The older male host came around during intermission and told her she could be the sound effects volunteer.. they picked 3 boys from the back instead)
I will also note this was a 2 hr show: the dogs were on the stage for about 30 minutes of that. The rest is volunteers from the audience in a game show host style show. So even more surprising that my daughter didn't get picked because it was 1.5 hrs of volunteering (in fact NONE of the kids in the front few rows were picked) I would not upgrade my ticket again.
This show is not worth $45 a ticket I would be very disappointed with that price. However if you get them for free or cheap I say go for it, I love the dogs are rescue dogs!
(On a personal note I took away a star because they had a very 'man's world' ideal. Jokes about a small boy being the king of the thrown that lost.. and oh yea I guess the girl that won could have a metal too. They also had a small boy break boards and a little girl couldn't figure it out because her board was rubber. They also primarily picked men or boys for the volunteers. I even told the guy that put on the show my daughter listens well and would love to do it. They could have let the kids do the golf bit. Again this show was for the kids. My daughter retrieved a golf ball and snuck on stage (she again wanted to be on so badly) they choose one little boy twice (once with his family) and once by himself. Women were silly for even trying or given harder questions to make one teen look like she didn't know anything, yet her brother got questions like "who drove you here?" It was just really small town and small minded. Also that misogynist older male host had the audacity to say "bless your heart" when I tried for like the 5th time.. like honey you aren't getting up there and neither is your kid... Even one of the girls training the dogs said "I had a Boy so I know what drive looks like" ... like ok... so this is a conditioned taught practice out this way. It's a man's world and us silly women just need to put our hands down and not try. This makes me more upset than I can say, but I'm just a silly woman right? I must have misunderstood or misinterpreted all those moments...
I would go again if I got a tickets for cheap or free, again I love that this supports rescue dogs. The dogs and my daughters smile when they finally came on is the reason for the...
Read moreI am so upset, and my son is so upset at how he was treated. He hated it. The comedy team made fun of him for not breaking a rubber board, while his competitor broke the boards without a problem. He feels angry and disappointed at how they broke his trust, luring him up on stage and then poking fun. He was so excited to be in the show and trusted the team to have a fair competition breaking boards. They made fun of taekwondo. My son is in taekwondo and loves it. That made it more confusing for him. He can break boards, no problem. I am so disgusted and want our money back. We loved the rescue dogs and their handlers. We hated the rest of the show. It was such an unexpected turn, that we stayed for the whole show, expecting to see a lot more dog tricks. My son loves animals so much and loves stories of animal rescues. I have warmed everyone I've spoken to about Brandon's shows, to avoid this horribly rude...
