We were booked at the Grand Victorian as part of a timeshare presentation deal from Wyndham. So it wasn’t really our choice and I can’t tell you how good a deal it really is. If I had to offer a comparison to a major chain, I would say it most closely matches a Clarion – an older hotel that has been refurbished but occasionally shows its age. That’s not a necessarily a bad thing, but it’s useful to know going in.|The Grand Victorian is located on the main 76 Country Blvd in Branson. The road follows the ridgeline, so most properties sit below the road. That can make it difficult to get in and out of the parking lot, but you can solve that problem by using the entrance at Denny’s. Parking in front of the hotel is limited, but there is additional parking behind. Fortunately, we stayed out of season, so we could park in front. The building itself is a 5-story hotel with ersatz gables. Nice looking from the outside. |There’s a spacious lobby (on the 2nd floor, which is the highway-side entrance), decorated in a teddy bear theme, leading back to a large breakfast area. There is also the Victorian parlor on the 3rd floor, although the décor doesn’t really say “Victorian” to me. The rooms are standard-size hotel rooms, with the addition of a very small balcony. We were assigned a room with two double beds, which made it a bit cramped. The beds were reasonably comfortable, and the bedding was clean. The bathroom is quite small, although the sink and vanity are in the entryway. I noticed some stained acoustical tiles in the bathroom, which is also a sign of an older hotel. There is adequate drawer space and a large wardrobe for hanging clothes. Wifi access was good, but not secure, so I’d recommend using a VPN.|The Grand Victorian offers a standard hot breakfast. Very typical offerings- scrambled eggs, ham, biscuits & gravy, waffles, toast, muffins, & cereal, a few cold offerings. Plus coffee and juice, but no tea. Everything was fresh and well-prepared, but nothing stood out from the typical offering. Be aware that they keep the TV in the breakfast room on NewsMax. They do have an afternoon tea and cookies, but when we were there, they just set out the cookies in a box. The breakfast area was spacious enough when we were there, but it could get cramped in high season.|They have an indoor pool and hot tub. It was quite busy on Saturday night. But it wasn’t at all busy when we were there on Sunday afternoon. The hot tub was very clean and well-maintained.|Service was good. Some of the front desk staff are more friendly than others but everyone was polite. Daily servicing of the room is a thing of the past, but we had plenty of towels for our 3-night stay.|All in all, I’d rate the Grand Victorian as slightly above average. It is certainly a good place to stay, with easy access to all of Branson’s attractions. The hotel is not fancy, but is clean and more than adequate for...
Read moreUpdated December 2021: Not a whole lot to add to my original review from 2 years ago (before Covid). There was a clear barrier screen at check-in, room cleaning while in-stay is minimal (extra items and cleaning are available upon request), breakfast is now "grab-and-go", etc...to address social distancing and general cleanliness; which I appreciated very much. Our rooms were very clean, comfortable beds, and well stocked with things like a microwave, mini-fridge, tv, luggage rack, etc... The bathrooms are still small, but fully functional and nice and clean. There's a very small balcony as well, but it was cold and raining and cars right in front (1st floor) so I didn't spend much time out there.
They serve free cookies and tea in the afternoons and free breakfast in the morning. Plenty of selection for breakfast: fruit, cereal, juices, milk, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy...so they've got you covered!
The lobby area is nicely decorated for Christmas and the service is courteous, prompt and appreciated! The only negative for this stay was the heat/air unit...I had a difficult time getting a consistent temp dialed-in. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay very much and look forward to our next visit!
Original review December 2019: This is a pretty nice place to stay while in Branson. We've stayed here a couple of times before and are generally very happy to stay here. The rooms are very clean. The decor in the lobbies are really festive (it's Christmas season) and the breakfast is a really good hot-breakfast with quite a few options (eggs, sausage, biscuits, gravy, cereal, fruit, donuts, bagels and an assortment of juices and coffee. The kitchen staff keeps everything fresh and clean too! The beds are clean and comfortable and the room is a good size. The TV is a bit smaller than what I'm used to, but I don't watch a lot of TV anyhow. The one glaring issue (as had been noted on several reviews) is the bathroom size... it's small. By small I mean I can touch any wall AND it's opposite wall at the same time small...and I'm not a big guy. Perfectly functional, just small. The sink and mirror are in the main room; which is a little weird (maybe?). Also the noise of the garbage trucks in the morning is a little disturbing (for sleep), but it's a good alarm to rise and shine I guess.
Overall though, I like very much staying here and the staff are very friendly...
Read moreThe warm welcome we expected was nonexistent. We drove 14 hours and was so excited at the promise of this hotel. My daughter walked up to counter and stated she had a reservation. Donald looked at her sternly as said "what". He then made condescending comment about misunderstanding her name. He was so rude and demeaning with his words and actions. He then proceeds to state the room is not ready. It was 3:45 pm and not 4 so we assumed it would be ready at 4 and he did not offer a specific time at all. We walked back up at 4 and he looked very bothered and stated it is still not ready. At that point I asked him what time and he said we could check back at 4:30, oh and he offered us a cookie. We went out and got our 2 shih tzus and came in and sat. While waiting Donald received a phone call and after he gets off he calls a customer a "dumb ass" out loud for all of us to hear. Everyone in waiting area just looked at each other. This was in no way a welcoming atmosphere. I did finally speak to another young man and I asked him since our room not ready at 4:30 and they have no idea when it will be ready could I cancel. He was polite but stated they would have to charge us 1 night. I did not hold him at fault but could not believe this. We were exhausted and not being given a time at all. We both went to our vehicle and just cried. Finally little after 5 room ready. Room was clean but the beds that night we discovered were horrible. We both discoverd we were leaning to the inside of the beds (2 queens) . They need to replace the mattresses since they appear worn out on the side people get in and out. They state "dog friendly|| and charge extra which I never mind doing. With that being said it appears they hold few rooms on 1rst floor that are dreary and dated for dog owners. We never did eat breakfast or use any of the other ammenites we were looking forward to using because the tension between Donald when we walked by was uncomfortable. We just came and went for 4 nights as quickly as we could. ||I work for the Army National Guard and travel for both work and pleasure. I have never been treated like we were treated when checking in. It was not a pleasant...
