I initially spotted Miro's Chicago sculpture while cycling towards DuSable Harbor one early morning. I thought that it looked very beautiful with the lighting flashing on it, which prompted me to get a closer look at it. I was intrigued by the colors on it as well as the fork on top of it which brought curiosity to look more into the meaning of it on a later date.
Miro's Chicago, originally called the Sun, the moon and One Star was unveiled on April 20, 1981 by Chicago's first female mayor, Jane Byrne. Its shape and pose is reminiscent of the famous Minoan snake goddess figurine from Crete.
