Everybody around Cook County makes fun of the county for being "Crook County" beholden to Chicago, but despite the irony of sharing the building with the Chicago's City Hall, they are really nice staff.
Pre-COVID I had to do an homeowners/senior exemption renewal for someone else and got it through pretty quickly on the Assessor's floor without trouble. I had the power of attorney paperwork which was necessary to file for them. Before which I saw Fritz Kaegi (current assessor) walking around the floor talking to staff, that's nice to see although expected.
On the Clerk floor, sometime in 2018 when I tried to get my a mail-in application a few years back (pre-COVID), a customer service rep in the election board floor very nicely explained I was past the deadline for applications, which needed to be sent by 3pm the day of. No rudeness, no smirk.
The building is quite grand and remarkable for its age. Keep in mind there's a lotta open space in the foyer, and if it's empty it'll look like something out of Scooby Doo.
Sure, there's a lot of things I don't like so much about Cook County (like the soda tax) which was the fault of the elected board and president who still wants to be mayor of Chicago. However, as for the "cogs in the wheel", keep on doing a good job at keeping this...
Read moreBuilding number 4 Super racist against people that are not african american. I came here with my sister and took a number which was useless since the lady that was gonna call us said step up in a very mean way even though it was not our turn! After that she even asked a man if he would take the payment even though that was not a question to be discussed since everything was right!People talk about racism all the time and sadly the people who work for the city act racist toward people that are not the same race as them, how sad. The only nice one was the security...
Read moreRating is due to the slow service to have them answer your attempts at a permit let alone the inspection to start work on our driveway. We started work because one county says we're good. So it's a mess- the driveway is all rubble and grates right now because we need another inspection. Oh, did I mention we need the permission of two counties because our house lies on two zones?! Once the "inspection" by Leyden Township was done (inspector merely drove past our property) he made up parameters of how the driveway should be! "Oh it should be three feet deep to this many feet wide." Etc, etc... Even tho the contractor has had over 20 years experience and the neighboring county knows and trusts him. But Leyden Township will pull your strings and have you jumping through hoops because they think they're...
