My family and I went this afternoon to the Crow Museum of Asian Art. There was a man who was an employee that followed us around the first floor. I had to say excuse me in order to read the museum label on the wall describing the art work. I’m not sure if it was due to our 9 year old going off to read by himself. However, It was very uncomfortable for my family and I. He never engage or asked if we had questions which we didn’t expect but he was on our heel everywhere we turned. We felt so uncomfortable we went up to the second floor. While the staff members up there only roamed about the floor we never felt as though we were being watched or felt their presence on every section of the exhibit. My son even questioned why is he following us. Needless to say we only enjoyed half of the exhibit. We probably won’t return due to the uncomfortable feeling of being watched. Overall, the pieces were beautiful. We can’t wait for the exhibit to open on UTD campus. Hopefully, we will have a different...
Read moreWent on the last day of my birthday vacation with my sister. I was pretty excited to see it but was quickly disappointed with the lack of art and being stalked by the staff.
I guess they don't like black people (despite the majority of the staff that day being of Indian descent visually 💀). We were both dressed pretty nicely, too (I was wearing a t-shirt with a button up over top, jeans, converse. My sister had a really stylish top, jeans as well, and heels).
But, I guess it's not surprising given the state I live in. If you're black, just be aware you'll be judged no matter what. I wouldn't bother going anyway since there's not much to see. There's literally 3 levels to this building, and they found a way to only stick maybe 10 works on each of the 2 upper floors. The bottom floor has more, but its all not very interesting.
TLDR: Only go if you have 15 minutes to kill and don't mind a...
Read moreAmazing free museum with wonderful staff. This small museum is amazing and always has some of the most beautiful and unique exhibits on display. Myself and my girls, both under 10 enjoyed it very much. Some people may be underwhelmed comparing it large museums like the DMA but this intimate setting is amazing to really get a close look at the art on display. We were in for the Divine Spark: Kana Harada exbit as well as the Born of Fire: Contemporary Japanese Women Ceramic Artists exibit and my girls enjoyed them both so very much. The front receptionist was so very kind, offered free masks and even gave a bag check for our belongs to not carry them through out the museum. I appreciate how kind all of the staff were and the art was beautiful as always. I love coming here once or twice a year to see the changing exsibits. Amazing display...
