An anchor to this part of Oak Cliff as a pleasant landscape with plenty of lawn area surrounding a lake that seems large for its setting. There are a few stone pavilions that look to be among those widely built by the WPA or the CCC during the 1930s Great Depression.
At night, the park changes looks with the green area turning pitch black and the surface of the calm lake mirroring the lights from nearby high-rise apartments and surrounding commercial areas.
Strangely, the park never appears to be busy. Occasionally, there will be a group playing soccer or using one of the tennis courts. Sometimes, a family gathers to celebrate a child's birthday or relax in the shade for a picnic. But never have I seen compition for space like one sees at other parks.
Tne closeness of single-family homes on a couple of sides, older high-rise apartments mixed with new construction and small neighborhood service retail, makes Lake Cliff Park a soothing urban setting and...
Read moreI have ran around this park for about 4 years. It's one mile around. It has a basketball court, baseball field, and a tennis court. There's always trash on the edges of the lake. It is unpleasant to see and sometimes to smell. There are areas to have events on. There is NO recreation center, and no place to go inside with air conditioning. The restrooms do not work, and they stink. Also, last time i tried to go to the restroom there was a grumpy hobo couple living in there. There are portable potties but most likely you wont find toilet paper. I usually just come to play basketball or to run around the park. The playground's slide are sticky as if they let ice-cream melt and slide down there. It's not as bad as it sounds. Families and sports teams come to play on the weekends. Some families have parties here, and many celebrate Easter and have...
Read moreI love this park and, for the most part the neighborhood around it. the park isn't rundown like many ppl think bc of it's location and just a block or 2 away down Colorado towards 35 is one of my favorite places to photograph the city. you can see all of downtown plus the lights on the Omni and Reunion Tower are facing your direction so you're certain to get a great shot-well at least certain to get a shot of all the buildings downtown. anyway the park has a nice trail that goes around it and it's not covered in trash or anything and I've never felt unsafe when I am alone walking to 7-Eleven or just hanging out by myself on a bench. they have transformed that part of Oak Cliff quite a bit over the last several years and one can find quite a bit to do during the day and at night if they explore...
