Update 2: I had my color/cut at Tangerine Coppell with Katie O and LOVE MY HAIR! Katie is AMAZING. Book early- she is in high demand for good reason! 💗
UPDATE: Shea, the Tangerine Mgr, reached out to offer apologies & generously offered a complimentary color at my next appt. I am VERY impressed w/her excellent customer svc recovery & updated my rating from 1 to 5 stars. Thank you, Shea. Your commitment to making it right is deeply appreciated!
—original post edited due character limit— I went to Tangerine Dallas 8 weeks ago. My stylist said that my hair is damaged, which it is, and my haircut did not lend itself to very many options until it grew out. She recommended I use the Botanical Repair shampoo and conditioner for 6 weeks, then switch to Nutriplenish for 3 weeks, which I did. I went back to the her today and told her I was fed up with my "no style," the color that washed me out and the way my hair came straight down and elongated my face. I showed her about 5 photos of bobs that I liked. She seemed impatient and kept telling me what wouldn't work (granted, she was right that my hair is too fine for some of the styles to work on me). She never offered a style that WOULD work. I asked about stacking the back. Nope. I asked a few more questions about various styles. Nope. I then hit on an asymmetrical cut. She acknowledged that she could do an asymmetrical but it would highlight my jawline. She got very technical about how the cut would have to be done, etc. I don't care. Just tell me how much length I need to lose and give me an idea how it will look. I then asked about doing a slightly different color for my part and partial to better suit my complexion. Again, she got very technical about overlapping and how the previous stylist something something, instead of telling me what she COULD do. I showed her a picture of my hair when my previous Tangerine stylist colored it and told her I loved how my hair looked in that photo. She asked, "Is that you?" She then pointed out how "choppy" the color was and how the stylist had overlapped the color, whatever that means. She then snapped, "we are ten minutes into the appointment. I have another cut after you." I gave up at that point. We had agreed on an asymmetrical cut that angled toward my chin. As for color, I think I ended up with the same thing I got last time. (It still makes me look washed out and isn't anywhere nearly as flattering as the "choppy" color.) I was waiting in the lounge area with the foils on when another person came over and said she was there to wash out my hair. My stylist never came to check on it to see how the color was developing. During my haircut, I asked her questions about how to best handle my fine and thinning hair. I told her I was switching between the two shampoos she had recommended last time. She told me, "that won't do anything." ?? Then why did she have me buy two sets of shampoo and conditioner last time?! Unless I specifically asked "What about using a volume shampoo?' "Would mousse or gel work better?" "What product are you using now?" she didn't offer any suggestions that would help. I made it abundantly clear that I was willing to spend money to get a flattering cut and color. She answered begrudgingly each time. She finally said that the Avanti mousse and Volumizing tonic would be beneficial. I purchased those as well as the Confixor gel (after asking what I should use if I decided not to blow dry my curly hair and just scrunch it.) I had a cut, partial highlights, toner/gloss, color balance long (my hair is short; medium at best) and botanical repair add on. I purchased the Volumizing tonic, Confixor, and Invati, for a total of $482.54 after taxes and 20% tip. For that kind of money, I expect MUCH better service.
Though I am tentatively ok with the cut, the color still makes me look washed out. I called Tangerine Coppell and booked with Katie O for February while still sitting in the parking lot. I have resigned myself to driving the 30 miles to Coppell and highly recommend you...
Read moreSo I came in 3 weeks ago and got my bleached and colored. At the time of my coloring I was told;
My hair wouldn’t be fried from having it bleached twice in one day. I wouldn’t need to come in for touch ups for 8 weeks. The only information I was given on how to care for my hair was to wait 3 days before washing it and to use color safe shampoo.
All of this information was wrong. My hair looked fairly damaged, the color had faded a lot after only two weeks even after buying their expensive shampoo and conditioner that was supposed to help the color last longer. While all of this information was bad on its own I had been severely under quoted for the service, paying nearly $700 for what I had been told would be around $500.
At two weeks I left a harsh review explaining my frustration about the result of my experience. I was fairly pleased when the owner (or at least it says it’s the owner) of the salon commented on it within a couple hours of me posting the review and said they were embarrassed and a manager would reach out to me ASAP. They never did.
After 5 days I called them and was able to speak to a manager. She apologized for my experience and that they hadn’t reached out. After discussing the situation what turned out to be the real problem was that my stylist (a master 2 level stylist btw) had failed to communicate things properly to me. She didn’t teach me how to care for my hair aside from the shampoo and conditioner (which didn’t work) and she was wrong about the timeline for how long it’d take before I’d need touch ups because it was 4 weeks not 8.
The solution we came to was to give me a partial refund on the coloring, a full refund on the products, and a free healing treatment with a different stylist the very next day. After the treatment my hair definitely does feel a lot better, which I am grateful for. I’m not getting my hair recolored there because I would like something that lasts longer nor do I feel like color that only lasts 2-4 weeks is worth the amount I originally was quoted.
What I would suggest for anyone coming here is to not get what they call fashion colors (any non natural color really) but their other services are more worth it. Get a consultation and ask a million questions and ask to see the stylists work on similar things. Don’t be afraid to ask for a different stylist if you don’t feel like the one you talked to is right for you. And if something does go wrong contact them. You might have to be persistent but they will work with you to fix it once you can get a...
Read moreI scheduled an appointment at this salon because I heard good reviews about it. I had messaged with a stylist about doing a consultation to dye my hair to see how much it would cost and if the stylist could do the color at all. On the day of the appointment, I left 1 hour and 10 minutes early so that I would be on time. My GPS notified me that I would be about 7 minutes late, so I messaged the stylist to let her know. When I finally arrived in Dallas, I had one more exit to go and it was 9:07 AM but I could not message the stylist because I was driving of course.
A couple minutes after 9:07 later, I arrive and the lady at the front desk informs me that I can't be seen because "it's past 9:07 AM" and I will have to reschedule...I replied no and told them I drove all this way, so she's either going to do the appointment or I won't come back. The front desk lady informs me that the stylist has a haircut after me so she probably can't do the consultation anymore. I find this hard to believe because 1) haircuts don't take that long for people with straight hair, and 2) the consultation would have only lasted 2 minutes maximum. Either you can't do the color, or you can. Simple.
After checking in with the stylist, the front desk lady tells me to come back an hour later because of the renowned haircut appointment after mine, to which I replied "No." because of my prior engagement in another city. All that said, I will not be back to Tangerine Salon at any location. If you can't take two seconds to look at my hair to tell me if you can do the service, then you do not deserve any of my hard earned cash. I drove so far to get there, the least she could have did was view my hair and give me a quote. Though after that, I would not have even scheduled a service with her after turning me away even if the service was free. Tangerine Salon has poor customer service. And on top of that, everybody working here has the same texture of hair and they only work on clients that have the same texture as their own. She probably wouldn't have been able to do my hair in the first place with their lack of curly technique. Will not ever come here again, and I'm glad they won't get any...
