As a long time resident of Davis, I have come to rely on decent customer service at Ace, worthy of at least 4.5 stars. However, if I were new to Davis and experienced what happened to me yesterday, I would have given one star. I was waiting in line and asked the cashier if she was open. She reluctantly said yes. I wanted to return an item and purchase a few items. She paused, looked at the item, then me, then sighed like I was bothering her. She asked for the packaging and I said I didn't have it but showed her the receipt. She stood there with an irritated look and said begrudgingly, "I have to see the manager about this..." Upon her return she shook her head at me repeatedly like I had done something terrible. I then gave her the drywall anchor I wanted to purchase. She asked "what's the price?" I said I didn't know. She said, "well, you'd better find out." At that point I was beyond shocked. I told her to forget it, that I would buy one somewhere else, after which I noted her name (Lorna) and went directly to the manager, who said she would tell the other managers and have a talk with her. The thing is, a week prior, I had asked Lorna about returning the item without the packaging, to which she nonchalantly responded that all they needed was the barcode, so just bring the receipt. Thus, her rudeness was not due to irritation over the lack of packaging, but for some unknown reason. Regardless of the reason, if you cannot treat a customer with respect and kindness, you shouldn't be working...
Read moreFirst things first, I Love this Ace! Other Ace’s are great as well but the experience and selection here is next level. Whether You’re a weekend warrior, or a general contractor, or maybe You’re just in the middle of a project, this is the place. Friendly and Helpful Staff. Management is very Nice and easy going as well as helpful. If they don’t have something, they’ll order it or help You find it at another location. They have a rock and lumber yard as well with knowledgeable staff. Their prices are great and I never feel like they were trying to up-sell items like the Bigger Hardwares stores tend to do. Not going to mention their names of course (Home Depot, Lowe’s. Haha). They have great staff and selection. Cat Toys, Food and Cat Litter, Baby Chicks, BBQ’s, Paint, Tools of all sorts with great price tags. Housewares selection is always updated and well placed. I could go on and on. If You haven’t checked it out yet, do Yourself a favor and go in and look around. If You have kids they also have some great toys and different items for the Kiddos. Thank You Downtown Davis Ace! I’ll...
Read moreThis place ain't cheap...but what is in Davis anymore? Lol...yeah, nothing. Now that Hibberts Lumber shut down (bummer!) as did the other Ace in Davis, this is the only game left in town. Only 4 stars for the 20%+ over retail pricing (my policy), & the fact that they will only cut keys that they sell the blanks to (their policy), precluding one from getting cheap chipped car keys & fobs on Amazon & getting them cut here.
Update: $10 ($9.52) for a 7/8" x 36" Vietnam origin unspecified wood dowel (of what appears to be sold as 'poplar' in the USA but is actually a type of tulipwood), to replace a broken handle on a STX lacross fiddleSTX. Plus my time to rehaft it. That's terrible. A new one with a ball is $20 on Amazon. Now you know why nobody repairs stuff anymore & just throws stuff away & buys new, lol. It's cheaper. Granted, it's a better fiddlestick for the rehafting, lol, but how long until the head itself breaks anyways? Not manufacturing stuff in America & instead importing stuff from halfway across the world is likely the root...
