TLDR: I would go back. The food could be just a little better, (extra punch in flavor and not as dry for others), but it wasn't bad either. The result just wasn't anything amazing to write home about.
Why: I may be mildly biased because I ordered something other than traditional BBQ. Getting that out of the way, I visited with a group of coworkers and we were a large group. Our waitress was very attentive, the glasses stayed full, the orders were out in a reasonable time and the food was good.
Why 4 stars? The food was not over the top. I ordered the chicken sandwich as I recently had enough bbq and grilling while having remodeled a kitchen. Before ordering, somebody mentioned that he has eaten here before and they the brisket was a little dry. My sandwich was good and there sauce was good, but they didn't use enough. This caused the sandwich to be a little on the bland side. From the conversations at the table, I gathered an equal feeling from others: the food could be that extra little nudge better, but it wasn't bad either.
Also, they add a 20% gratuity into the bill by default when you are with a large group and it cannot be removed, only added to. Our service was great; however, that's not exactly a guarantee for everyone When did it ever become mandatory to pay a tip? Tips have always been a courtesy or a reward for good service, not an obligation. So it's kind of like airlines or instacart, where the company is looking for extra ways to inflate revenue. Better quality food justifies higher prices and that better quality is an incentive to return, whereas mandatory tips just feels like...
Read moreDraper Peaks represents everything that's horrible about American retail. Located on 12300 S State Street, you couldn't ask for a more busy and congested place to put a sprawling collection of strip malls, interspersed with pads featuring one restaurant franchise after another.
Draper Peaks is proof positive that Draper City either lacks an urban planner, defers all city planning to developers or hired a city planner who graduated from a now defunct online university named after our current president.
That being said, I've eaten in one or more of the restaurants here, obtained cell phones at Verizon and Sprint, bought bread, shopped for clothing and housewares and even made pottery at Draper Peaks.
Doesn't mean I liked it. Doesn't mean I ever looked forward to returning. Doesn't mean it's quaint or convenient getting from one business to another. It sure as hell doesn't mean there's anything "walkable" about the place, including making it from one's car to any of the businesses located here.
Then again, Sugarhood is a cluster, Ninth and Ninth can be a nightmare, downtown is no joy ride and forget about Park City at any time other than a Tuesday morning during the mud seasons.
What a legacy Draper Peaks must be to the developers and city officials who approved this medical waste. You know more than one stake high councilman is proud as punch of what they've done. Irony anybody?...
Read moreAs Indoor Shopping Malls have become a thing of the past and outdoor malls the current trend. This particular 'Outdoors Mall' located in a high density suburban part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area, has a variety of very nice places to visit for clothes shopping, restaurants, entertainment, strolling the shopping strips made to be like closed streets for pedestrian traffic only. We visit this area frequently and quite enjoy going to some of our favorite clothing shops as well as Good Wood barbecue restaurant which is not like Texas or Southern BBQ it is purely Utah barbecue which usually means the barbecue is prepared in an oven no smoke. However, for some odd reason they do smoke their prime rib for Thursday, Friday, Saturday nights and it is delicious and you should not miss it This is an opportunity to enjoy quite a delicious smoked prime rib the portion size is based on 16 oz however you can choose any size you like larger than 16 oz of course for a price a hefty price per ounce. I have reviewed this restaurant before and I'm sure you would be able to find my Good Wood barbecue restaurant review amongst the Google reviews I have...
