This Carroll Shelby Museum and production center is worth visiting if you have any interest in high performance vehicles, historic Shelby’s or just want to experience a work place that openly thrives on team accomplishments.
While at the museum I found it refreshing to learn about Carroll Shelby. He viewed his obstacles as challenges to do even more, performance had no finish line.
When entering the building, you are welcomed into a large retail shopping area, that has fashionable Shelby clothing and lots of accessories. The best part is that everything is reasonably priced. I did a little bit of shopping, all within reason, of course.
The Shelby history museum is attached to the retail area. It is open for viewing anytime during store hours and it is free. Even better is taking the opportunity to join a free guided tour of the museum. The tour started at 1:30pm the day of my visit, but be sure to confirm the time has not changed. It lasted about 2hrs.
Our guide had a long-standing relationship with Shelby, which was clear during his presentation. His in-depth knowledge not only on production, but on the back stories of Carroll Shelby were fun to hear in person.
Shelby Senior Designer, Vince LaViolette, even took time out of his day to introduce us to the newer mustang designs. Vince encourages concept ideas to be sent to Shelby from anyone and they honestly examine each idea. If there is any potential an idea may enhance Shelby performance, it goes into testing. I cannot wait to send them my new performance cup holder idea (they may be more focused on mechanical and vehicle structure).
I learned more from listening to Vince in 30 minutes than I have in the past several years. He demonstrated how Shelby design enhancements to basic assembly vehicles can greatly impact performance. My performance vehicle is going to embrace the road better than ever before, thanks to Shelby.
The tour then takes you into the Shelby operations bay. You get a full view of Mustangs and Raptors getting the Shelby enhancements. It is a very impressive shop just to look at and I am sure it is even more amazing to work there. At the end of the presentation you are given an opportunity to sign your name to the Shelby shop wall.

Read moreDo you like muscle cars? Then you will love this place! You can take a FREE tour of the Shelby Heritage Center and visit the gift shop on Ensworth Street in Las Vegas nearly every day of the year. The place is filled with both classic and current Shelby vehicles and memorabilia. For a fee you can tour inside the shop that still produces a limited number of customized Ford Mustangs such as the Super Snake, GT350 and GT500.
The Shelby Heritage Center celebrates the life work of Carroll Shelby. He is best known for his involvement with the AC Cobra and later with Mustang based performance cars. If you have seen the movie Ford vs. Ferrari then you know how Shelby managed the Ford team to dominate the 24-hour Le Mans Tour with his team taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ahead of the cars of legendary Enzo Ferrari. Additionally he won the La Mans as a driver (Aston Martin) in 1959 and manufacturer (Cobra Daytona Coupe) in 1964.
In 1982 Shelby was asked by Lee Iacocca to help re-establish Doge as the performance division of Chrysler Corporation. He did this by developing the Dodge Shelby Charger in 1983, a car considered to be quick economical performance car.
