I was very pleasantly surprised with my experience at Shelby Heritage Center.
Our group was looking for a fun, low pressure way to spend our morning before our midday commitments Saturday. We decided to attend the cars and coffee hosted here every Sat 7am-10am.
While the number and variety of cars was less than what were are used to, this was easily overshadowed by the warmth and welcome offered by the staff and participants. We were immediately approached with raffle tickets, and ended up winning one of the people in our group a T-shirt that was very cool. In addition we were offered the experience to sit in one of the cars that was present at the show to take pictures (YMMV of course)!
After we had seen everything outside we went inside and did the free self-guided tour of the heritage center, featuring a view into the shop working on the cars and a selection of Shelby vehicles on the floor. There is also a very reasonably priced Shelby merchandise store, which is very nice considering being so close the horrid price gouging going on right down the road!
We are absolutely going to make this a staple stop for any of our weekend...
Read moreAfter seeing Ford v. Ferrari and watching the Netflix documentary on Carroll Shelby (both excellent) the wife and I decided to visit this museum. We went for Cars and Coffee, then went through the museum for the free self guided tour. I was not super impressed. The photo storyline presented along the wall covers many of CS’s milestones without much explanation or interpretation.. a fascinating life reduces to bullet points. The cars were nice to look at but not one had a placard explaining what it was or it’s significance to the story. If you don’t already know the various Shelby models discussed in the museum’s storyline, you won’t know much more after visiting the museum. Maybe the $49 “private” tour explains them, but the museum didn’t provide enough of a teaser for us to want to pay to find out. But hey, it doesn’t cost anything, and in that regard it is definitely worth dropping in, especially if you idolize Carroll Shelby and want to lick up some...
Read moreNeat cars in here and Shelby Carrol had built a neat name! This place has some cool things about it but I do not believe it does him and his legacy justice. The timeline on the wall wasn’t in order so it was hard to follow the little bit of life story you got about him. All the cars had absolutely no information or plaques to read, so you have no clue what you are looking at. The history of the car, owner, history, if it’s an original or not and etc isn’t shared. A lot of the t shirts and products are cheap and tacky too and are very commercialized! One thing that stuck out was the $520 table and chair set. Built very poorly and light, cheap steel and quality and even the seat is sloppy because of cheap bearings in the swivel. If Shelby built great cars I’d think he’d want some quality products to be sold. Worth a visit but wasn’t quite what we were hoping for. I really wanted to know more about the cars and there was no info and people working...
