I've tried Tacos El Gordo several years ago, but at a different location. I thought the experience was good (not outstanding), considering all the hype that surrounds this business. I wanted to give it another try and introduce it to my family for their first experience, therefore, we drove to this location because I didn't feel like driving to the other Tacos El Gordo restaurants in Las Vegas, especially the one on the strip. Not to mention, this location was recently built and I thought it looked really nice from the outside and I've been wanting to visit.
When we walked in the restaurant, I was in awe due to the size of the facility and with how many customers were in the restaurant. This restaurant had the same concept as the other one I visited where you stand in the line of the meat item you want. I know that this concept works for the majority of customers, but honestly, I'm not a fan of it. The idea of having to split up my family to order different meats or even fries is a tad bit annoying if you ask me. Not to mention, even if I was by myself, it would be especially challenging to get both beef and pork in one line without having to jump to another line. I was informed at one point to just ask for asada while in the adobada line (or vice versa)...well, if that's the case, then why not just have 2-3 lines to stand in to order your food and eliminate the meat-specific lines entirely? Well, the concept seems to work for this successful business so I guess my opinion doesn't really matter at this point - regardless, I'm still sharing it.
Additionally, I think the business could benefit from adding more indoor seating arrangements (seems as though they have the room for it considering the size of the building and floor space), because after my wife had ordered the family's asada items, she went outside to find a table since there weren't any open tables inside. While she was sitting outside, "MY" tacos were getting cold because I was still in line trying to get my and my daughter's pork items - this was rather aggravating! If not additional indoor seating, then perhaps several outdoor heaters? Or maybe the 2-3 line concept that allows customers to order whatever in each line?
We ended up ordering the Mula Adobada, Vampiro Adobada, Taco Adobada, Taco Azteca, Asada Tacos, and Asada Tostada. The quality of the food is just amazing but given the price of the tacos, I wish it was a little bigger. Don't get me wrong, the tacos aren't super expensive or anything...I just don't believe the quantity warrants the price. Overall, I like this restaurant, hence the 4-star rating. I know it may sound like I was dissatisfied with this place due to the aforementioned things above (that's why it's not 5 stars); however, I can see myself visiting again down the road and I still recommend this restaurant...

Read moreI love Mexican food but know little about it except that I know that authentic Mexican food is not readily available where I live.
So when my cousin who grew up in Southern California recommended this tiny shop that sold authentic Mexican tacos on the Vegas strip, I had to try it. (Her family makes it a point to eat here every time they are in Vegas.
Rather than visit the location that she recommended on the strip, a quick Google search lead me to this location near the airport, which we stopped by to eat before going home.
We ate in mid-afternoon so the place was not yet busy. You have to stand in a different line/queue depending on the type of meat you like. It helps if you are dining with someone else you some divide and conquering can be done. Otherwise you will have to line up multiple times.
Once you collect your food, there is one more lineup to pay for your food. I'm not sure if this is the most efficient way, but it seems to work for the restaurant.
They also have Mexican sodas/fountain drinks which I was able to try, as a novelty for me. Some were very delicious, others were so-so.
The star of the restaurant is the food of course. My wife and I tried an assortment of tacos. My cousin recommend their carne asana fries, but of stomachs were not large enough for this visit.
I am confident that I will eat here again, the next time I am in Las Vegas.
Below is a quick explanation of my rating mechanism: 1 star: Absolutely horrible and will not come back under any circumstances 2 stars: Way below my initial expectation with very few highlights. Will only come back to if a friend strongly insists. 3 stars: Average with some turn-offs. Might give it a second chance to test more dishes/services/items out. 4 stars: Meets expectation with a couple highlights. Will come back. 5 stars: Exceeds my expectation by various aspects. Will come back (quite often for food if applicable) and also recommend the place...
