Returned to The Davis to enjoy pre-show dinner before Hamilton. It was a celebratory dinner made even more special when we learned we were lucky enough to sample the new Spring Menu being prepped by the new Chef "Willy" Wilton. Holy wow. He was so charming and freaking talented. We started with an amazing Ahi Tuna Crudo: melt in your mouth tuna was so delicious with the fresh citrus -- we inhaled it. The fantastic Hot Honey Salmon Bites reminiscent of beloved hush puppies and fritters was a fantastic texture with beautiful presentation. There was also a new take on their popular Deviled Eggs: red peppers and leeks. One of us who typically won't eat deviled eggs loved this incarnation especially with the classic bacon. The parsley sprig with sliced red radish garnish added the right freshness. Lastly the bright and appealing beet salad in smooth balsamic did not disappoint with its simplicity and the beautiful creaminess brought by the cheese. If this is the shape of things to come for 2025, the new menu promises to be worth experiencing time and again. One of us had to have the oysters on the half shell which were exceptionally fresh and came with an excellent ginger mignonette. (6/$20) For entrées we had: the pan fried salmon which was absolutely perfectly cooked. The steak frites came out remarkably flavorful and tender in demiglace. But the all time table favorite was still the tender pan-fried shrimp and cheesy grits with a kick. We had two bottles of champagne from their outstanding champagne list. Hands-down table favorite was the bottle of Pierre Gimonnet & Fils' "Gastronome" -- recommend by the owner when we didn't know what to try for our second bottle. Highly recommend the "Gastronome" if you're looking for an exceptionally elegant bottle of bubbles to share. So crisp and bright -- it was an absolute pleasure to drink it. Reservations strongly recommended. The Davis was packed as we headed to the theatre.

We were visiting for business and decided to check out The Davis based on another review of a drink on their menu. Unfortunately, when we reviewed the menu, that drink was no longer available. Instead I went with the Apricot Manhattan. It was bold, but good. My partner ordered a local brew that he really enjoyed, too. We decided to give the Curry Shrimp appetizer a shot and it was a hit. After reviewing the menu, we didn't anticipate getting such a delicious curry from a standard American restaurant. It had good flavor and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. The naan was crisp on one side, which made for a nice, sturdy vessel to pile the shrimp and shallots. I ordered the Skuna Bay Salmon and it was perfection in a bite for me. The salmon was nicely cooked and not at all dry. The brussel sprouts were, in fact, crispy and were sprinkled with sea salt that paired perfectly with the dried cranberry vinaigrette. I assume the potato puree was there for texture. Nothing fancy or remarkable about them, but they did help hold the sprouts together on the fork, so I suppose it served its purpose. My partner ordered the Sirloin Steak Frites. He ordered it medium rare, but it came out closer to rare. He blames himself for not ordering it medium given the cut of meat they were working with, but the near-blue rare center of the steak was mostly inedible because it was so chewy. He did feel that if we came back he'd order a different entree next time though. But going back to the appetizer - he'd return just for the Curry Shrimp any day. Overall, the food was of excellent quality, especially for the price point. I've spent more on dinners that were less satisfying at other restaurants before, so I would definitely return to explore the menu again if I get sent back to the Eugene area for work. Thanks for the delightful dinner!

My first time visiting this Eugene institution. My friend Mari brought me here as a welcome dinner since I am visiting from abroad. Food is really on point and it’s immediately recognizable that the ingredients come from local producers and are high quality. I’m a certified sommelier and was really impressed by their champagne selection. As we were celebrating all the great things life brings us, and catching up with old friends and new, we got a 2017 vintage Thierry Triolet and it packed all the brioche notes, tang and elegance of a Blanc de Blanc. We began with the chef’s board- cheese and meats garnished with pickled veggies, nuts and preserves. I learn that all the meats are cured and prepared in house. I like that one of the meats was served warm- super tender pork that had melt in your mouth fat 🤤 Shrimp and Grits, the salmon, and the tuna crudo with strawberry made more a seafood feast that I need not critique- all well dialed in. Perhaps I would like a little more acidity in the crudo, but I think my mind is just imagining it were ceviche. We had crème brûlée and coffee to finish. Service was great and the place really feel homey and welcoming. Met the owner who is a class act! Will be back before I leave Eugene. Say hi: @mackenzieputici

Davis is our go-to standard restaurant for a nice meal. A short walk downtown provides great ambience, very friendly, efficient service and fabulous food. Dollar for dollar, you can't beat their prices. No matter how busy they are, if you let them know you have an event to attend they will get your food to you in a timely manner. We often have dinner there before a downtown event but do allow enough time and always let them know our time constraint.

We've sampled many of the menu items (which do change--sometimes resulting in our favorites disappearing for awhile but then returning at a later date) and have found most all of them to be very well prepared and a combination of flavors that is delightful. Their $12 (6 oz) steak dinner is one of the highlights. Excellent cut of meat that two of us can share (the other person gets a vegetarian entree and gets part of the steak, too), perfectly cooked fries and a wonderful salad. Lovely aioli sauce for dipping!

When trying to decide between the beet salad, which is my standard, favorite meal, and the steak (which I sort of wanted) the waiter suggested that the side salad included with the steak dinner would satisfy my salad needs. I love the kind of service advice that helps me make a choice.

I could list all the items we have sampled on the menu but will just say we have not found anything that wasn't good to excellent. We've taken many visiting friends there and all gave it a huge thumbs up, regardless of the cities they traveled from or their own local restaurants. Eugene friends have joined us and loved it, amazed at the prices and the excellent quality which brings them back.

Their prices really are fantastic for excellent food, great service and a relaxing, date-worthy atmosphere. Dressing up, dressing down, celebration or just a meal out, Davis cannot be beat in all those categories. If you don't drink alcohol, a meal there is very affordable but their drinks are really good, too and priced reasonably.

Davis works hard to earn our business. They continue to hold their own downtown and are definitely a bright star in revitalization. I'd give them six...
