UPDATE 5/15/19: So I have updated this a few times and wanted to add this one to the top of the review because if I could rate this hotel negative stars I would do that in a heartbeat. Today they actually charged my card $1093.61 and in speaking with the hotel they had no record of it. I spent 2 hours on the phone today trying to fix this and the remaining issues. My latest issue was made exponentially worse and resulted in complete disgust when the Assistant General Manager JP was extremely rude. He went as far as to saying something along the lines of "I am trying to help you get your money back I am not your psychologist." That level of customer service is not acceptable from any level of employee, let alone a member of management. What you promote is what you permit from a management level. If the assistant general manager is treating customers like this then it is permitted; therefore, promoted by the hotel and the brand. Currently the Marriott has taken or is holding $2271.61 from me AND will be charging my corporate travel department for the room. I would suggest choosing another hotel and chain if you visit the area, but if you must stay here UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you give this hotel you debit card information.
I checked in a week ago for an 11 night stay. It was a business trip so our corporate travel department gave them a corporate card to reserve and pay for the room. When I checked in, I was asked for a card. I gave them my debit card. I have traveled for business countless times so I know the drill. I give them my debit card, they hold a certain amount of money per night and then it is released when check out (barring wild parties or room service binges). I checked how much would be held and she said $1100 or $100/night. I asked if she could do any less and she said $900, which was fine.
Well fast forward to this morning and I check my checking account to find that there was another pending charge from Marriott for $938 from today and another for over $200 that was put on Yesterday. Obviously I was kind of shocked so I asked the front desk. Apparently the genius (that was sarcasm) who checked me in deleted the corporate card for payment and just went ahead and entered my credit card to pay the entire $1700+ bill.
I attempted to call their customer service number which was essentially worthless since I did not have the credit card number that their inept employee deleted from the reservation. I will have to stress out tonight trying to figure out how I can pay for their mistake until I can, hopefully, get it figured out in the morning.
Now I have stayed in hotels all over the country in similar situations and this is the first time I have encountered this level of incompetence from Front Desk staff that will potentially cost me over $1500. It is absolutely unbelievable that they train their employees so horribly that they do not know how to check in a guest.
I have reservations for another 11 day trip starting on May 20th and while I call my corporate travel department in the morning to fix their halfwitted mistake, I will also be request they move that reservation to another hotel. At the end of the day I don't care how nice a hotel is, if they cannot figure out how to check in a guest without an egregious I will not be quick to stay there again.
Update 5/14 - This morning they placed ANOTHER hold on my account in the amount of $853 on my account. They are now holding over $2000 on my account. Do not, I repeat DO NOT trust this hotel with your credit card information. I am absolutely terrified to see how much these imbeciles will tie up in my...
Read moreI found the Courtyard Federal Way to be a halfway decent place to spend the night, but there were definitely some things that made my stay less than awesome. ||My room was comfortable and serviceable, and the bed was decent. I was on the 7th floor, but some of my co-workers who also stayed in the hotel on lower floors complained their room smelled strongly of B.O. However, despite being up on the 7th floor, I wasn’t immune to the loud banging as someone took out the trash behind the hotel and let the dumpster lid slam shut at 5:45am, waking me up way earlier than I’d intended.||The morning after my sleep was where I experienced the most hiccups. Following the undesired super-early wakeup, I searched for some coffee to help finish my morning takeoff, only to find there wasn’t a coffeemaker in the room, so I went downstairs to see if there was something in the lobby — when I asked the desk clerk about coffee, he admitted not all the rooms had coffeemakers but they didn’t have coffee pots in the lobby, I had to go to the Starbucks shop in the lobby and buy coffee. ||When I checked in, I was told breakfast was included as part of my stay and that my room number would be on the list, so imagine my surprise when I was told at the Starbucks counter that my room number was not on the list. I went to the front desk and was informed that no, I didn’t get free breakfast after all, but the manager apologized and said she’d apply a credit to my account — however, the breakfast credit is only $10, which in many cases didn’t cover the entirety of the cost of breakfast at the in-house Starbucks/food place, so I ended up still having to pay a few bucks for an overpriced yet meager breakfast burrito. ||All in all, as a hotel, the place is okay, but definitely not a great overall experience like I’ve come to expect at hotels in general or Courtyard by...
Read moreWe were pretty disappointed with this hotel. It looks nice online, but not so much when we got there. The room was musty, they didn’t stock the room with enough towels (we made reservations for two adults two kids) so just 4 towels would be sufficient but we only had two. For whatever reason they give you three pillows on each bed, not 4 so only two of us could have two pillows each. They advertise a “restaurant” called the bistro… it’s not a restaurant… and it’s not open for very long. It’s like a really limited snack bar with a few hot items. They open late in the afternoon and close at 9. We purchased a bottle of wine and it was 35$ but it was a cheap bottle you can buy from Safeway for 9$. It wasn’t very good at all. The pool was nice and we stayed in the pool for a great minute, but rules are not enforced and there were so many kids in the pool unsupervised it was a mess. Kids were running around the work out room with no parents. My daughter said one of the kids popped a work out ball and was throwing weights around the room. (You can see the work out room from the pool) one of the kids kept yelling at my daughter for no reason and threw her sunglasses on the ground and broke them. He kept shouting at all the kids around him, and it was really awful. But the worst part was the mattress. We could literally feel the springs all night long. We woke up feeling sore and exhausted the next morning from lack of sleep and being so uncomfortable. We stayed here because we were going to wild waves, and the close location was convenient. But we will never...
