DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS.
Their systematic financial deceit, breach of contractual agreements, & unethical behavior should serve as a warning to those who are considering joining Powerhouse Gym Fort Lauderdale.
FINANCIAL DISCREPANCIES Noticed irregular billing with two additional monthly charges off on top of the membership fee.
BREACH OF CONTRACT Discovered the gym breached the contract by making unauthorized withdrawals from accounts, claiming these charges were for extra services that were EXCLUDED in the contract.
INEFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION Attempts to address the issue with the Director of Administration, Hagan Hagmaier, were met with evasion. Hagmaier admitted to a lack of understanding regarding membership contracts, denied responsibility, and stated āhe did not knowā our intent to cancel, when both written and verbal communication were provided. Additionally, Hagmaier verbally confirmed that similar situations have occurred previously and shifted the blame onto the membership consultants, whom he ironically manages.
REFUND FOR UNAUTHORIZED CHARGES After a week of ignored emails, my husband had no alternative but to call and speak to Hagmaier directly. Hagmaier never confirmed that the refunds would be guaranteed and that the returned funds must be āapprovedā via corporate, despite these funds being unauthorized. These charges themselves were NOT LISTED in the signed membership contract. In fact, there is a specific clause within the contract that states such charged services are EXCLUDED. Furthermore, I had to take it upon myself to calculate the total sum of unauthorized charges taken from my account, in addition to proper analysis of the contract.
FAILURE TO RECTIFY Powerhouse Gym Fort Lauderdale failed to rectify the breach of contract and refused to honor refund and cancellation requests.
ONGOING ISSUES The gym has not refunded unauthorized charges, continued billing after cancellation requests, and now demands further payments to terminate memberships. Hagmaier states that there is nothing more he can do in this situation and continuously shifts responsibility & fault to his membership consultant team, the administrative system that Powerhouse utilizes AND my husband & I. He attempted to evade responsibility by claiming it was difficult to address the issue, conveniently blaming myself for discovering the unauthorized charges months after we signed up.
Though I can only speak for myself and my husband, there are 40+ combined Google and Yelp reviews that highlight similar situations of stolen funds, breached contracts, scams, & shady and deceptive behavior.
I genuinely hope that my unfortunate experience gives you the opportunity to protect yourself from this dishonest,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been waiting already to give these guys a review for about six months now, but Iāve just been putting it off and now I feel itās the time to speak up. Iāve had this membership for a little while now through my health insurance, but it seems like they are getting greedy and wanting to charge more for the memberships without the Health insurance being involved.
I already pay $500 a month for my health insurance PLUS $50 extra to use this gym as a premium facility.
First , While I do like the gym, it is very small and always crowded.
I also think that they could do a better job at hiring at this facility especially some of the girls working at the front desk. The Hispanic women and one of the Hispanic male managers are very weird acting with the blk customers and make u feel extremely uncomfortable walking in. (Which is the main reason that I stopped going so much. ) Hiring quality people based off of actual personality instead of looks goes along way.
Take this advice from a business owner. Looking good doesnāt do enough in this day and age especially when u have a nasty attitude and a rotten soul and your personality is the equivalent of crushed peanuts.. Nobody wants to deal with that just trying to go workout. My life is stressful enough.
They dont even greet u , but Iāve watch them greet Non Black customers almost immediately that are walking in right behind me. Which is strange to me because they do have a few of younger blk women working here. Iām just not understanding the āblk intimidation.ā So Iām wondering what the staff interaction is like.
Today I talked with one of their salesman over the phone to ask why they would not be taking the insurance anymore and he really couldnāt give me a clear answer. So what I got from our conversation was that the insurance wasnāt paying enough since theyāve gotten new owners. ITS GREED at it finest !! And when greed is involved, what goes up must come down.
I wouldnāt recommend supporting this type of facility at all. Not even on a day or guest pass. The guy that I spoke with tried telling me that they would still offer a discounted price of $95 and I could cancel at anytime but Iāve known and have heard to many horror stories with members not being able to cancel thatās why Iām surprised at their recent 5star reviews. Plus Iām not going to pay an extra $100 on top of what Iām already paying my insurance just to feel...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNot a real premium gym but it's still OK.....Pluses; good equipment, very clean and super convenient parking/location (in the mall). Negatives, small changing room, no juice bar, no lounging area, incredibly moody staff, sloppy service all round, limited classes, mediocre towel service.
When I joined I was looking for something akin to an Equinox, I had been a member of Equinox for eons. I get it Powerhouse has limited space but the service delivery is just hit or miss....I have seen staff ignore, roll their eyes and more at clients asking legitimate questions (and the clients were being polite). Personally, I avoid the staff because you're more likely to get sort of attitude than not and the latter just kills the mood for pre/post workout. I've never seen anything like that and it's especially bad at weekends and evenings.
I have no real idea as to how much I'm paying pm, I think around $80. Is it worth it? Honestly, I don't know. Would I recommend Powerhouse, probably not. Fitnesswise you're not getting anything more than a solid gym and they're a dime-a-dozen around Fort Lauderdale. Powerhouse is always clean, that's a major bonus. Although regarding their service delivery, I just don't get the front line staff's lousy attitude, no one needs needs that and it diminishes the experience (for both staff and clientele). Over the past year I think I've only had to engage with staff 3 times, the last time I had to be forceful. I used a public locker, when I went to get my things, it wouldn't open. So, I asked for assistance/someone to open it, the girls just looked at me then after a pause one of them said 'OK' and then they turned to each other and carried on chatting & laughing. After a wait, I asked again, I was ignored. So I had to raise my voice to get their attention. This time I got dirty looks and sighs from both, and one of them got up to open the locker. Turns out the lock was faulty. The girl had to mess with the key/lock, when she finally opened it, I went to thank her but before I could she walked away like a little prima-donna. The whole thing was just bizarre.
This is normal at Powerhouse, so get ready for it.
Despite the latter there is one lady who is always pleasant, super professional but the...
