Read moreI’m reluctant to post this but feel like there are a few things you should know before signing up at YJ - that they won’t tell you.
YJ oversells memberships and will prioritize Class Pass members. This location alone has over 900 members which is bizarre considering they have one studio. This makes it extremely prohibitive to schedule classes that you want to go to. There are some “prime hours” classes that you will simply NEVER be able to book because of the overwhelming demand.
Additionally, they have very rigid rules about cancellation of classes and of your membership. Their typical membership includes “XX” amount of classes per month. If you book a class and something comes up that makes you unable to attend, they will retract that credit from your monthly allotment unless you cancel several hours in advance.
If you want to cancel your membership- beware. They make you jump through some hoops. You can’t call and cancel. You can’t email and cancel. You can’t walk in and cancel. You have to fill out a PDF form that you will receive when they get around to sending it to you, then you can expect to wait several days for them to confirm your intent to cancel, accompanied with a reminder that they will be charging you an additional month of your membership starting at your next billing cycle (which in my case was weeks away). Canceling my membership cost me 2...
Read moreI’ve been a member of Yoga Joint for a long time, and it is a great studio otherwise, but I had a very frustrating experience canceling my membership. When I spoke with the manager, Joe, I was informed that I needed to provide a written 30-day notice to cancel. While I understand the standard practice of requiring notice and even written cancellation, the process here is unnecessarily inconvenient. They require you to fill out and sign a form, which is sent as a PDF with no option to sign electronically. This means you either have to print the form, sign, and send it back or physically go to the studio to sign it. They do not accept a simple email, which would be far more practical. On top of that, Joe was very unhelpful and borderline rude, insisting that there’s a way to sign the form electronically, which clearly there is not. For people with busy schedules, this process is unnecessarily difficult and feels like a deliberate barrier to canceling. One would also expect that the manager would fully understand how their own tools work before insisting otherwise. This is not how loyal patrons should be treated. I hope Yoga Joint seriously reconsiders this outdated cancellation process and trains their staff to provide more accurate and...
