If I could give the Frisco Bay Marina zero stars I would. After having our boat at the marina for the last few seasons, the marina abruptly terminated their relationship with us after we complained of our boat being parked under a poplar tree getting sap all over it after they had just waxed it and charged us thousands of dollars for doing so. We didn't even complain until my wife and I spent an entire weekend trying to undo the damage. We were always model slip holders and extremely respectful to our fellow slip holders as we had a small child of our own. That said, after a single complaint, the new Marina Manager decided to end the marina's relationship with us as he did not want his staff to have to field any complaints and found that us stating the obvious in our complaint was somehow disrespectful toward the marina. The marina then attempted to correct the situation, but in doing so, they a) did not return the boat to how they found it when they took it from its slip, and b) removed the stays from our wind turbine and only put one of them back, and very loosely at that. As such, has the screw thread that our wind turbine was literally hanging from given way, the turbine would have fallen into the water and quite likely damaged the hull of the boat from the fall.
This wasn't the end, however, of our terrible experience with the Frisco Bay Marina. To make matters worse, when putting our boat away for winter storage before we knew that the marina had abruptly ended their relationship with us as no one talked to us but instead decided to deliver that message via email, an email that Apple's servers treated as spam, the marina disregarded the instructions to not cover our solar panels with shrink wrap when they put our boat away. This of course means that our batteries will die over the course of the winter unless this situation is corrected. When I reached out to the marina on several occasions about this situation, they responded again by email instead of picking up the phone and talking to me, and that email was again blocked as spam. Further, when I was finally able to talk to the Marina Manager over the phone after not being able to talk to him for the entire season, he informed me that they would no longer do any work on our boat and flat out refused to correct the situation. He told me he put a zippered door in our shrink wrap and if I wanted the issue fixed, it was up to me to do it.
To be clear, the Frisco Bay Marina is not a full service marina. They do not have water or power to the docks for larger boats or a travel lift to put your boat in the water. They, however, will charge you more for their woefully inadequate services than any marina on either coast or on any major lake. They are a canoe, kayak, run about, and pontoon boat rental facility and nothing more. If you have a boat over 25' or a boat that you need any marina services for, I strongly recommend that you stay away from this marina. Perhaps they somehow believe they have a captive audience or something like that, I just don't know. My advice is to find yourself a marina that is a marina first and foremost and a rental shop second, if not at all. There's plenty of them out there, so don't think for a minute you are beholden to...
Read moreThe "summer junior attendant" told us we did not have to watch the safety video. He said he showed us what we needed to know and that the person who was the boat attendant would show us the rest. We told him that we were not very experienced and when we told the boat attendant that we had not watched the video, he seemed surprised but just shrugged it off. We failed to see the markers in the water per the map we were given, that indicated where we should and shouldn't have been boating.
The scenery was beautiful and we were having a wonderful time, but we were lost most of the time trying to figure out where we were. The body of water is massive with many areas that you can go to. We did not see markers that were on the map and while trying to navigate back to the dock, we apparently hit a rock causing the back of the boat to drag down for a few seconds making a terrible noise.
When we arrived back to the dock, the boat attendant yelled at my husband "Dude, you're in the wake zone, you can't go that fast!" If we had seen markers, (as shown on the map), he certainly wouldn't have been going fast. When the guy raised the motor it showed damage to all 3 blades of the propeller resulting in us paying an additional $227 on top of the 2 hour rental fee.
We are glad and lucky that we were not hurt, however we should definitely have watched the safety video and I think they need to have much bigger and better signs or markers. We would never deliberately cause damage to property or ourselves potentially.
Only 1 person asked if we enjoyed ourselves besides the damage incident. All the others cared more about the boat and the office manager made some stupid remark about us not heeding the warning signs. Well, duh, if we saw them, we sure would not have headed...
Read moreI had a 4 hour kayaking trip scheduled for 8/8/23. It was easy to schedule and the staff were all very helpful and friendly I was having a wonderful time on beautiful Dillon Lake, although the wind picked up and I wasn’t making much headway. It started to get windier and after I figured out where I was by looking at the photo I had taken of the map, I realized I had gone to the Blue River arm instead of the arm back to the marina. I called them and told them I was going to be late. They asked if I was ok, and I was fine. After continuing to paddle hard for another 1 1/2 hours, my arms were starting to cramp up and I was getting really tired. I called the marina back and asked for the rescue boat to come get me. They found me in about 10 minutes. The 2 guys were so kind and reassuring, helped lift this big old 69 year old lady out of the kayak and into their boat. They asked several times if I was ok, which I was except for being tired. We named my kayak the Minnow because my 4 hour trip turned into a 6 hour trip. They only charged me a minimal fee for the extra 2 hours and no charge for the rescue. They could not have been kinder and continued to make sure I was feeling ok. They also called me over the next 2 days to check how I was doing. Their professionalism and care was outstanding. Hopefully I will be back to the gorgeous Lake Dillon again some day and if so, I would use Frisco Bay marina again in a heartbeat. I had a wonderful time and just enjoyed myself so very much. Now I know that canoeing experience on river float trips when I was younger does not fully translate to kayaking on a lake when it’s windy. It still was a huge highlight for me and I can’t wait to get back out on a...
