I am new to the area and just recently retired. I am 62 years old. I’ve been using the Rosenberg library services to check out books since the beginning of the year. I’ve never been late with return and have always taken good care of the books. Today I went to check out some books with the automated service and was told I needed to speak to someone at the desk. I did so I was told I had a fine, I was very confused as I had not returned anything late. she told me there was water damage in one of the books I had returned sometime in the last few months. She went to get the book. She opened the book to the middle of the page and there was a few rumpled marks in the page. Nothing dramatic or bad at all. She then told me I had to pay $18 or could not use the services of the library any longer. I said I would never damage a book and how can you guarantee that it happened during my check out versus a check out of someone before me, she said they just knew. Also, this was a new author for me. John Marr and I didn’t care for him so I never finished the book. The ““ water marks were in the middle of the book. I paid the fine. I checked out my books. I left. I reached out to the admin support super freaked out that I just had to pay $18 for a couple of pages that were slightly damaged, which I do not believe I caused in any way shape or form. Very concerned with this process. I’m now scared to check out any books with the fear that if one tiny mark is on the book I will be charged another $18. I’m retired and on...
Read moreWe were in Galveston for Spring Break. My two adult daughters had an important zoom meeting they had to attend. We stopped by the Rosenberg library because we hoped we could find a place to conduct the zoom meeting. Rosenberg library has rooms you can rent if you rent them 24 hours in advance. We understand that and it is a reasonable policy. However, all of the rooms were empty. We asked the obvious question "Since the rooms are empty and since you said they are not booked for the rest of the day can you make an exception and allow us to rent the room?" The answer was "Nope, 24 hour policy". "We can't help you". We were directed to a larger room at the end of the library and were told that maybe we could conduct the zoom meeting in that room. So we walk down to that room and ask the question. "Can we conduct the a zoom meeting in this big empty room" The person in charge said "sure, but you have to maintain social distancing" We said "they are sisters and they live in the same household". The response was "it doesn't matter 6 feet is 6 feet." Since they only had one computer that wouldn't work. However, they finally got the help they deserved. They held the zoom meeting while they set next to the windows by the entrance. In the end this is our fault. Shame on us for thinking we could count on the Rosenberg...
Read moreI’ve enjoyed regularly visiting the Rosenberg Library. Yet, yesterday I had the most horrible experience. Let me start this by saying ALL employees should be in a Rosenberg Library T-shirt and that ALL employees should be wearing a name tag. Tanya had on a T-shirt that said BLACK real big across the chest and then not sugar, not cream it had nothing to do with coffee but, even so - it was unprofessional in appearance and why do some employees have the Rosenberg Tee on and others do not? Long story short I was told my service dog who is handicapped and 3lbs had to have a leash and be walking. (She can’t walk). So Tanya called building maintenance who came looking for me. I told him I have a letter as proof of my dog being a service animal who can alert me before I have a seizure (one more reason she is held). Regardless he called another building employee and neither employee would give me their names.
They violated my rights and harassed me to the point I almost had a seizure.
I have filed a complaint with The Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division.
Rosenberg library better get their staff trained. These three employees and the supervisor of building services who appeared but, did NOTHING should all lose their positions with the library. They are all...
