I haven't been since 2003! My husband was the Technical Director/Master Carpenter from 1998-2003. I had the pleasure of getting to see 13 shows every year! Theywere always amazing. I also was blessed to act as props mistress for quite a few shows & got to choose what decorations and items went on the stage as well as help in building many of the sets! I'm not sure people truly understand what goes in to putting on a show! Everyone always praises the actors & singers! Well, there is an entire crew, backstage, that makes every show possible! They are the ones who set the whole scene! Theyare who sparks your imagination, taking you to the places depicted in the shows! As one person commented, they had really enjoyed Singing in the Rain! She doesn't know just what it took to make it "rain" on stage! My husband did it at The Opera House first! If it's the same as when he was there, Then it's most likely his design! So, be sure too thank the people you never get to see! They are just as important to a great production as the actors, if not more so! I'm so glad that it's up & running again! This place was not just a job for my husband! It was a passion that he never knew he had! He was an amazing TD & he was an amazing man! I'm sure he would be happy to see that they are still up and running! Sadly, he passed almost a year ago! I know there was always a part of him that would have loved to go back to work there! I pray they keep up putting out awesome entertainment for many...
Read moreI had been such a fan of the Opera House and have visited many times.... until today. I purchased several tickets that were cancelled due to COVID and was told I could get a refund or use the tickets later... I used 4 of my 6 tickets. I called last Saturday to use my remaining 2 tickets, that I have already paid for, after looking online to see that there were several OPEN AVAILABLE SEATS but was told that my tickets had expired, guess I should have gotten the refund instead of saving them. What dumbfounds me is that the Granbury Opera House would rather have open seats opposed to seating continuous paying patrons. As I was explaining this to the two individuals over the phone, I stated that I would not continue to be a paying patron after being refused my tickets (of which I PAID for!), I was literally told "we will be better off without you".... I had been very nice to these individuals up to this point however, my following words were not so nice after that comment. I am honestly shocked! They requested that I be sure to add that they sent out emails informing patrons that the tickets would expire. I do not read every email that goes to my junk mailbox, who does? Despite the emails, again, there were open seats within just two hours of the show AND they didn't mind keeping my money that I had already paid. Bad business ethics on your part Granbury...
Read moreI loved nearly every second of my time there. My only critiques would be that the concessions were pretty slim pickings but it was also supplied by a sponsor I believe so can't fault it that much.
The other critique I had that really isn't able to be fixed ever (unless I get skinny but even my stick thin friend said he felt like he couldn't put his arms much on the armrest due to his person on his right side) is that I'm pretty fat and big boned and I had a hard time sitting comfortably without feeling like I was gonna jab my fat arms on both sides of me. I almost feel like I should order 3 seats so I can kinda get comfortable and have arm room lol.
My last critique was that it felt like there was no moving air in the first floor in the second section and it started to get pretty warm pretty quickly. I had to turn on my little personal pocket fan a few times during the show while they were singing on the stage. Just so I wouldn't die lol.. I initially thought it was hot flashes because I'm going through menopause right now but my normally cold-natured friend said he was pretty hot as well. So I don't know if this was normal for a show or not normal for a show but meh.
I'd definitely come back though for other shows . Just maybe I'll purchase extra seats for my fat self...
