The Historic Granbury Square, located in Granbury, Texas, is a vibrant blend of rich history, charming architecture, and small-town hospitality. Established in the late 1800s, the square is anchored by the iconic Hood County Courthouse, a striking example of Second Empire-style architecture that remains the heart of the community. Surrounding the courthouse are beautifully restored 19th-century buildings, which now house a variety of unique boutiques, antique stores, cozy cafes, wine bars, and fine dining establishments.
One of the standout attractions on the square is the Granbury Opera House, which dates back to 1886. Restored to reflect its original grandeur, the opera house hosts live performances year-round, adding to the townâs cultural appeal. Visitors can also explore the old Hood County Jail, now a museum that tells stories of the townâs colorful past, including legends of famous outlaws like Jesse James and even whispers that John Wilkes Booth once lived there under an alias.
The square isnât just about historyâitâs also a hub for community life. Throughout the year, it comes alive with festivals, art shows, and live music events. Farmers markets and seasonal celebrations make it a lively place for both residents and tourists.
