The cops that work here should be embarrassed that they serve their citizens via public extortion. I lived in NYC for 10 years with a car and never had one ticket. I’ve worked in EMS alongside cops and know how to operate vehicles with emergency lights. As soon as I moved here, it’s been endless tickets. I literally wake up to see cops running to ticket as many cars as they can on my street. Listen, I have no problem being ticketed for valid reasons but in my time here, I’ve been ticketed for absolutely no fault of my own. The first time I got a ticket, I had just moved here and the city was handing out expired parking passes and telling citizens to wait until they received notice of the new one. I never received notice and was handed two tickets for the expired pass even though I’d had it for several months no issue. I’ve been ticketed for my tire being on the white line of the parking spot due to other people not parking within their lines. The middle aged “volunteer” who you speak to regarding appeals could care less about you and stares blankly at you as he rejects your appeal (it’s the same guy every time like wth?). I now understand why California gets a bad rep…...
Read moreI filled-in bldg permit online to re-roof on Thu 10/7, however, didn't know how to submit, so I saved as pdf form on my PC and emailed to Community Development (Bldg & Safety). Fridays they are closed. Monday was Columbus Day. I called the City on Tue am, spoke to Mia who answered phone right away and was very pleasant. She was efficient and informative. She found my email and told told me to come in Wed. I went in, spoke to another gal (didn't get her name) but she was efficient, too. She prepared the permit and I paid for permit at cashier 2 doors down, came back and they issued permit. The only improvement they can make is listing steps on how to do this. I had done this process with RB and it was very confusing w several emails. RB can learn a lot from HB to pull a simple permit. Also, HB Community Development office was actually OPEN for walk-ins....
Read moreRegarding City Hall specifically, it's probably the most rude and entitled group of people you'll come across. In renewing my parking pass this year, I heard phrases like this said to Residence of Hermosa Beach, "don't throw things at me" (when a customer slid his card to the employee), "stop interrupting me" (directed to me when I was asked if I had an updated license plate because they could not locate my vehicle, which I did not).
I then had to provide my vehicle registration to show them that my license plate change the years ago at which time the employee admitted it was their office that screwed up when they didn't update it last year.
These people act like they run life for the residents here when all they really have control of his how quickly they process giving me my new parking pass...
