I wish my local planet fitness members were as respectful as this location's. No one talking loudly on the phone, no loud conversations, everyone (I mean EVERYONE) cleaning up the machines after working out. Plus, it's opened 24 hours 5 days a week with SUPER friendly staff. Really enjoyed this place - stayed here for 2 hours, 2 times during my 9 day waikiki stay, and that's a lot during such a limited time stay.

It’s your typical planet fitness. I will say it’s smaller than any I have been to. I went around 10:30am and it was so busy. I had to really adjust my workout to work around the availability of the weights and machines. Only 3 smith machines and they were in use the entire time. You can def get the job done here, but I’d go prepped with extra time.

No longer 24/4 with reduced hours, stingy on cleaning spray, machines have been broken for months, working machines are rusted out, and you’ll occasionally walk away with peeled fingers due to infection that’s what you get for $26.95 a month with a black card membership.

I felt the handling of Covid by this planet fitness was very poor.

In the beginning the policy was

"Masks on while in the gym, but not on the machines.”

Not only this makes no sense, unfortunately there were members who weren't taking it serious. I recall watching a staff member asking for a member to put his mask on, but he didn't and kept walking.

Then it changed to

"Masks on the entire visit of the Gym"

The signage was not very good to begin with and this had a loop hole in the locker room. Members felt it was okay Not to be wearing masks in the locker room. I mentioned this to the club multiple time, asking them to put signs in the locker rooms to remind the members that "masks are required the entire visit of the gym". They never did. They said we have sighs out here, which was a 8X11 paper posted on the entry door. I've also spoke with the assistant manager regarding this issue, and she got very defensive about it. I told her there was nothing to get defensive about, I'm just asking for extra signs in the locker rooms.

The worst was when I encountered a member in the locker room not wearing a mask, I gave him the benefit of the doubt that he had it off for a short period of time, after about 5 mins, I kindly asked him if he minded putting on his mask. It was unfortunate that this member decided to lash out of me, and made physical threats. I spoke with the staff regarding this event, and he was just warned.

During this time I sent multiple message via the PF website, asking for clarification for the members in the locker rooms, but never got any response.

And finally when I decided I didn't wish to be part of this gym anymore, There was another very annoying policy: They make you come into the gym personally, or send a Certified mail from the post office to cancel membership.

If anyone wishes to stay away from the crowds during the pandemic, it would be the gym and the post office. I called and asked about if there were any other way, lover the phone, but they said NO. When I arrived at the gym, I had to wait in line just to get in the building to cancel my membership.

The gym is not bad all for the price you pay, but because of the price, it attracted subpar- members like the ones who wishes to disregard the rules of the gym. I also felt that there were few semi homeless members who would come to take showers in the gym time to time.

I have very sour taste in my mouth from this whole experience at this PF.

They were closed for what seemed like 1/4 of the year, and they wouldn't refund my yearly fee that was just charged in March/April.

Maybe the Gym will respond this this review, even thought they never responded to the message I sent via...

Red light therapy! Access to affordable red light therapy is why I joined Planet Fitness. If you will permit me to explain red light therapy as a lay person I will offer you my vague understanding. Red light therapy uses part of the light spectrum that does not tan or burn but instead promotes circulation and healing. There are a few places around town of varying quality. The bulbs have to be changed often BC they lose a teensy bit of effectiveness with each use. Without that you're just paying to sit in some light for no benefit. When I go to the best place (on McCully) my skin is warm and flushed at the end if the 20 minute session in a tanning bed (again, no tanning). I pay attention to immediate results bc I do not want to fall for a gimmick. At PF there is a different system in place. The sessions are 12 minutes long and you stand in the closet like unit, so it is not as comfortable. Yesterday I went to PF after taking a break for several days from my favorite place so I could see if the machine at PF worked. My answer is, I think so, though not as dramatic as I see when I go to the place on McCulley. I will continue to attend. It is affordable here, $20 a month whereas in other places you have to buy the package to get $10/ session! Also I like the 24 hour weekday access. I am using the red light at PF as a supplemental treatment for some injuries Ihave. When there's a wait due to COVID occupancy restrictions, the wait is outside and I have never waited more than 20 minutes. What can you do? I have never waited to access red light once I am inside. As long as PF keeps on top of changing out the bulbs frequently, I will be totally committed. Granted, this is not their focus but if more people knew the benefits, it could really add to their business in my unsolicited...

I've been to ~20 different gyms (including PF and otherwise) throughout my life, and this is unfortunately the worst gym I've ever been to. I've noticed that there seems to be a signficant turnover rate with staff... This may be because of the nature of young people in HI moving in and out, but this turnover does not surprise me, because I have always found the staff to be unprofressional and rude. I am usually not one to comment on employees attitudes, because it could just be a bad day or whatever, but the amount of consistency that I've noticed with the inappropriateness and just general unkindness from workers has honestly been too regular to not mention. This is the most unclean gym I've ever been to, which is probably my biggest issue with it. Have found gum in the lockers, can tell tanning booths aren't cleaned, paper towels from gym users are often scattered throughout the gym, etc. This is also the gym I've been to in which the most machines/items are consistently not working properly... I feel like stairmasters are all not working 90% of the time (which is crazy with how many they have and how popular this machine is), most of the stationary bike machines don't work/don't get fixed properly, many lifting machines don't work far too often, tanning booths aren't properly lit/functioning, hydro-bed doesn't work like 40% of the time. I don't mean to be overly-negative in this review, but it's just honestly hard to find the light here... I've had so many positive experiences with PF (at MANY locations) on the mainland and because of all of these these problems, I am planning on switching my...
