Vegan Review: Just moved from Colorado Springs and realizing how spoiled I was. This market looks huge from the outside but it is very small. What makes my visits frustrating is how unorganized this place is. You will find many items located all through out the aisles. You think you’ve found the vinegars or soy sauce? Nope, you will find several more pockets in random spaces. Hawaiian born I need my Aloha Soyu. I was so bummed not to find it, then finally found more by the freezer. NO vegetarian fish sauce. They have zero. Only 2 vegetarian oyster sauce, there was one vegetarian mushroom sauce and one oyster flavored sauce that had no fish in it. They were not easy to find. I love Wan Ja Shan, there are so many brands - it was disappointing to see. Only one kind of vegan frozen dumpling that I could find. This has always been the hardest choice because I can’t decide and loved trying all the different options. Tofu is a good price. No Yuba. My biggest gripe is the plastic wrapped produce. Highly unusual and I’m still shocked that anyone buys them. Inspecting 3-5 options at least, by smelling, feeling for ripeness, looking for imperfections, is just how it is? You couldn’t fool any body into buying something they couldn’t inspect. CONS: unorganized, plastic wrapped produce, and out of balance inventory. Like a ton of noodles, one type of cornstarch, makes it hard to be a one stop shop. PROS: Great location, easy parking. OVERALL: I’m on the lookout for a market with better inventory for...

About as clean and tidy as a 3rd world sweat shop this China town Food Market is a one stop shop for all of your rotten fungus infested over expired shopping needs. Have you ever wanted to purchase mushrooms with mushroom sprouts on them? Have you ever seen wild fungus grow from an open plastic cooler? Do you enjoy shaking moth balls of an ice cold can of cocacola? If you answered yes to any of the above Chinatown Market is the premier grocery store in Kansas City for you. Please adhere to recommended safety procedures and cover you mouth and nose. If you breath the air inside please check yourself for extra terrestrial mold spores. If you witness anyone touch or god forbid consume anything inside please report them to the cdc for quarintine. If you prepare a meal with ingredients from this location expect to wake up in a government blacksite hidden away in new mexico. Your autopsy will be immediate and painful and may assist humanity in a future war with unknown entitys beyond the stars. The staff a friendly and despite marketing speak in korean. Ask about the backroom special on wild...

We visit here every time we come down to River Market and always end up buying something! The store has a good selection of most things, mainly dry goods but has fresh produce and seafood too. The store is definitely smaller than you think and pretty cramped inside. This mixed with the seafood department, does make the store have a distinct smell most times. They definitely update their stock and rotate new items in the store. They usually have some fresh bakery goods near the front of the store but it is a pretty minimal selection. In the middle is a cooler with a ton of cold drink options. Staff seems to be friendly enough too. I used to get Hite Extra Cold - a Korean beer here but have not seen it for some time. This is the only place in the metro that I know of that even sells it so I do hope they get it again sometime. Overall, Chinatown Food Market is always fun to shop at and has a pretty decent selection. It is not as good as 888 International Market, but considering the size and even having this option, it is a great...

This place has been open for years and was once one of only a few Asian markets in the area. Over the years there have been some improvements but it is nowhere near as nice as 888 international market but it has a decent selection with several different brands of similar products and is so much closer and convenient than 888. There are several different aisles for snacks, Japanese ingredients, canned food, but the majority of the store's products cater to Chinese cuisine. In the back is a large freezer section and butcher. This is an excellent place to find decently priced off cuts or more exotic meats. There a large array of fresh fish and seafood that can be cleaned and cut to your preference. They also have foreign beers and Vietnamese style baguettes perfect for making your own banh mi or sandwiches. Definitely grab a few of these at the checkout.
