Katy freeway used to be called Katy Road, then they turned it into a freeway.

Back in the day, roads where usually named after where they went. For example, Katy Fwy goes from Katy to Houston, Houston the bigger town. In Katy it was probably called Houston Road in the early 1900s, then it became part of Katy Road, then Katy Fwy. Other times, it was renamed both of the destinations put together.
