My 2 friends and I books a private boat to take us on the 3 hour sandbar hopping excursion. The site was easy to navigate and the bill was clearly laid out. The confirmation email had clear instructions on how to get to the marina and where to park, and we were able to sign the waiver online to save time. We got the dock a bit early, and Captain Jason was ready to go! He was so friendly and calm, very easy to talk to and highly entertaining with his stories and impressions. He somehow knew when to engage with us and when to let us just enjoy the view. He also let us choose the kind of music we wanted! The boat was comfortable and clean, and the views were spectacular! Our first sandbar was smooth and clear, and we enjoyed a long swim there. Then Jason took us to a large patch a mangroves that wove through a passage to another sandbar where we swam and explored a pathway into the water-forest. A family vacation in the Keys was long in the works. Its emphasis was to be fun activities for our grandchildren. My wife, a retired teacher, is a strong proponent of "experiences". She picked Night Kayaking Key West as one of three major highlights. (The other two were Dolphin Encounter at the Dolphin Research Center and Looe Key Snorkeling.) Night Kayaking Key West did not disappoint. As we returned to the dock, my 10-year-old grandson turned to me from his seat in our double kayak and said, " Grandpa, this was the best night ever!" I couldn't argue. It was pretty amazing. Brandon was a great guide. He was friendly in the right measure, serious when appropriate, and fun and funny when appropriate, too. An hour-and-a- half tour seemed just about right. We didn't see quite as many creatures as we had hoped, but what we did see was cool: colorful sponges, iguanas, a mangrove tunnel, a barracuda, a shark, a ghost crab, and a lobster.
