The Promenade is a very inviting artful public space in very upscale part of Long Beach. Be see to check out the restaurants, bars, coffee shops on or adjacent to the Promenade! Also the access to public transportation is right here..
From the Promenade area at Ocean Blvd you can access a free shuttle that will take you to many attractions Long Beach has to offer.
The free shuttle is a short ride to Shoreline Village and the gorgeous Marina, miles of boardwalk, the Queen Mary or in the other direction you might go to the far end of the very cool and trendy 2nd St. (take the bus heading south). Access heading south includes Bixby Park and Bluffs Park (11am and 5pm free Yoga class on the bluff which has great views).
Check Google Maps for the areas I have mentioned here. I have written reviews on many of the restaurants, bars and other attractions throughout downtown and out to 2nd St... You can read my reviews (over 500)... cmilton111 on Google Maps.. select my icon and enjoy my reviews.. a mini tour of the best of SoCal.
The Promenade is centrally located therefore it is close to many of the exciting things about Downtown Long Beach. The Convention Center, The Arts and Entertainment Center, Shoreline Village, and The Pike Outlet; are all a short walk.
The Hyatt Regency, The Westin, The Renaissance, The Marriott, Hotel Maya by Hilton and other excellent Hotels are nearby (these hotels all have their own restaurants and bars).. most within walking distance.
I notice that a lot of people are walking their dog/s; if you aren't you may be able to get to pet one or more of these City pets like I do.
Take your cameras and keep in mind this is really a great area to go for a bike ride...
Residents are generally very friendly, easy to talk with and helpful if you need directions... Seriously, this area is one of the most friendly due to the charm and roots of this gracious community (early settlers I am told were from the midwest).
Have fun while you can In gorgeous Long Beach. You may find the Promenade is the perfect starting or ending point.
Hope this helps!

Read moreThe Promenade in Downtown Long Beach is a pleasant pedestrian pathway that runs perpendicular to pine! PHEW!
The walkway itself is generously wide, with plenty of room for comfortable strolling alone or with large groups of people. It runs North to South, beginning at Shoreline Village and traveling north into DTLB, ending at 3rd Street (Parking Garage and Harvey Milk Park)
Littered along the Promenade there is lots of seating. Between 3rd and Broadway there is a nice little area for dogs. At First St. there is a park with a playground for the youngins, and a delicious hotdog vendor. At Ocean Blvd, the Promenade meets up with The Loop park, don't forget to grab a Taco at the truck!
There's a bunch of restaurants with Promenade access, but I feel like there could/should be much more. It has certainly been filling out more in the past 2 years, with new additions like Dog Haus and Brass Lamp (no longer open), however I feel like the strip lacks diversity.
All-in-all it's a nice little walkway downtown; it's an easy way to visit shoreline village (Park in the parking structure 2 hours free and walk down to the shore!), a nice place to walk your dog or take your kids, and a blossoming...
Read moreThere's been a lot of positive change in Downtown Long Beach, including the Promenade. Back in the 80's, I worked at Musicland in the old mall, and Downtown was a run-down, dreary place. Now there are condos, mixed-use spaces, apartments, pubs, and good restaurants. The issue I have with the Promenade now is the homeless population. There are a lot of mentally ill, and strung-out folks, which is sad. It also makes the dining and shopping experience feel a bit sketchy. I hope the city finds some solutions to this...
