I wanted to share a few words about my recent stay at Hotel Mai in Long Beach. While my stay here may have been a little more expensive than other hotels in the area, it was well worth it for me. Let me start with the lobby and parking. Parking was a breeze, but be aware that there is a $15 per night charge, which can actually be waived if you write a review for the hotel. I admit that this was one of my main motivators for writing this review lol. Despite that, all the staff that I had the pleasure of interacting with were so friendly, helpful, and accommodating. I had forgotten toothpaste, and my girlfriend didn’t have any makeup wipes. No problem! The amazing staff at the front desk provided all the supplies we needed. They even accommodated a late checkout at no extra fee. No promises this will always be available :) The lobby was well-maintained and clean, a good foreshadowing of what my room would be like.
I reserved a room with a king-size bed and balcony. It was super clean and very modern looking. I loved using the much-talked-about bidet, and all the furniture and appliances looked up-to-date. After you use your key card to power up your room, you are welcomed by warm lights that fill your room and reveal the great care and attention they give to each guest’s room. The bed was super comfortable, the AC worked great (once we found the thermostat lol), and I loved mostly everything about the room, especially the huge HDTV. If I could think of anything that could possibly be improved, it would be that they used better showerheads, had curtains that completely blocked out the sun, and had some sort of way to block more of the noise from outside. However, these are minor details that could be improved. Otherwise, everything was clean and quiet, and I just had the most comfortable stay.
I can’t end this review without talking about the amenities as well. Wi-Fi is free and there’s a pool (note that it is a small pool mostly to entertain kids), hot tub, sauna, steam room, and fitness center (2 treadmills, 2 bikes, a bench, and free weights up to 50 lbs) on the second floor. All these amenities are meticulously maintained, and I made sure to make full use of them lol. I will mention some small gripes I had that could be improved about this area. I think the hot tub could be cleaned a little more frequently and the sauna takes forever to heat up. The sauna might even be broken as it never got super hot. Like I said, these amenities were great to have, and my girlfriend and I made sure to make full use of them.
They also provide complementary water, small eucalyptus hand towels for the steam room (my girlfriend loved these!), and full bath towels for everything else.
I honestly can’t say enough about this place, and if I am ever in need of a hotel in Long Beach, this will be the first place I book. I can’t wait to be back in the future! Thank you, Hotel Mai, for a pleasant experience and a restful stay!

Read moreWe had 2 rooms with balconies and stayed 2 nights. The check in process was lengthy due to a "computer error with expedia," nothing to do with the hotel. They did let us check in 3 hours early, which I thought was awesome. The people in front desk were very serious and didn't seem very friendly. I read a lot of the reviews on this hotel and the only thing I agree with is how clean the hotel was. This hotel has only been open for 1 year, so a lot of the furniture and bedding are new and this is probably why it looks so clean, and I'm sure housekeeping keeps up with it as well. Beds were comfortable. Tv was nice. Very modern with bidet toilets and warming toilet seat. The smell of what we think was paint was very strong, on top of that, our second room which was on the 5th floor smelled like marijuana ( very strong), the entire floor needed ventilation, the hallways were warm and smelled like a combination of chemicals along with the marijuana. We asked for a transfer and they gave us a different room. Although they gave us a different room, the front desk disagreed with how strong the marijuana smell was. The good news was that the second room which was on the 4th floor smelled less like paint and didn't smell like marijuana, also had cooler hallways and better ventilation. There is a $150 dollar deposit plus $25 dollar parking fee per vehicle. Once night hit, it was a nightmare! IF YOU WANT A GOODNIGHT SLEEP, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU!!. 1. Metro link goes all night with loud bell noises. 3. Public transportation goes all night with loud squeaky break sounds. 2. Drunk people walking by all night screaming and being loud. This is why I gave the hotel 3 stars. A good night rest is very important when on vacation. The balcony is very small and all balconies are really close together, your neighbor can jump right on your balcony at any time without any issues. All balconies face the metro link, bad idea! The hotel has a terrace which we had no clue about. It would have been nice to know. For pool hours and any other hotel information, you will have to do your own research as the front desk doesn't say much when...

This hotel is centered in downtown Long Beach. There is a vast array of restaurants, food trucks, bars, and various places to pass the time within walking distance.
The Deluxe Room features a walk-in shower, a king-sized bed, a couch, and a sizeable television with access to cable. The bathroom toilet had a bidet, and the mirror was illuminated around the perimeter. I'm sure those looking to apply makeup would appreciate this. As for the bidet, it's up to each individual to see whether or not they appreciate the clean-up assist. I opted not to utilize it, citing the feeling of being violated as once described by counterparts. I'm not currently looking to enter a state of existentialism by its use.
In the shower, they had bodywash, shampoo, and conditioner. They were labeled as "BODY", "HAIR", and "CONDITIONER", respectively. The body wash and conditioner were self-explanatory. The shampoo, however, confused every ounce of my intelligence (or lack thereof). I stood in the shower for approximately three minutes and seven seconds, as I questioned why a hotel would have a dispenser loaded with hair. Is it intended for those balding and looking for a momentary confidence boost before washing it off? Is it a new hip way of scrubbing as opposed to using a loofah? I didn't know, and these were questions I asked myself. I utilized every ounce of my adventurous side and pressed the dispenser to see it with my own two eyes. I found that it was not hair, but rather simply shampoo.
Now, while using simple logic and reasoning, one could have easily figured this out within seconds. Unfortunately, my mind was clouded with the thought of entering a state of existentialism by using the bidet and thus could not think clearly. The mislabeled shampoo dispenser was ultimately the thing to put me in an existential crisis, making me question my intelligence and purpose in life. This was exacerbated by the ridicule I faced (reasonably so) by my girlfriend, who witnessed the trance I was in.
Anyways...
This hotel is pretty nice and I highly recommend it. Don't think too hard when reading...
