We checked in on Friday and stayed over through Saturday evening which was our wedding night. We absolutely loved the location of the hotel and the style and set up of the room and hotel when we arrived. The hotel was cool, charming and check in was quick and easy. However, the service at the hotel left a lot to be desired, especially considering we were staying in their master suite.
We phoned in Thursday and requested early check in (4 pm is incredibly late in my opinion for a check in time) and were told that we could arrive and if the room was not ready we would be allowed to leave our stuff with the front desk while we waited. Not only have I never been denied early check in when requested, but obviously, their solution defeated the point of early check in- we did not want to arrive early and sit around the lobby.
Our room keys did not work in the elevator and both needed re-loading which was just the first of many customer service issues.
We enjoyed a bottle of champagne in our room Friday evening (thank you to the bar staff for allowing us to use their champagne flutes) and used the disposable coffee cups to have a cuppa while getting ready for our wedding on Saturday morning. We left the hotel at 830 am and got back to get changed for dinner and drinks with our family and friends on Pine Ave around 330. We were super disappointed that only the most cursory housekeeping had been done in our room- the bed sheets had been put up with the pillows strewn towards the headboard and the trash had been emptied and that was it! The amenities had not been restocked (I was initially impressed by the small things like makeup remover wipes, which I had forgotten, but not having that replenished made it seem like a bit of a wasted amenity to have. The horrible powdered creamer and sugar had not been replenished which, for both my husband and I, meant NO COFFEE the morning we woke up after our wedding), the empty champagne bottle, empty and used coffee cups and champagne flutes were all still sitting out and the desk area was not tidied or wiped down meaning it was a bit sticky from the sugar packets that were already ripped when removed from their protective plastic.
All of this would have taken just a few moments to clean up and sort out and we FOR SURE knew we wanted to wake up to a CLEAN SUITE and COFFEE after celebrating with friends and family, so I called the front desk and asked for it to be sorted prior to us returning that evening around 9:00 pm. The lady on the phone was apologetic and I was sure that would be the end of it, but at a hotel with bad service, that was not the end of it. When we got back at 10:00 pm our room was in the EXACT same state- nothing had been done to make it any tidier or cleaner and we still could not wake up to COFFEE. When I mentioned this issue at check out there was nothing but the smallest 'sorry' and 'dont really care' shrug.
I know that all of these things might seem like no big deal, but we live in Long Beach and splurged for an expensive suite at a hotel 5 miles from our house to have a lush and stress free weekend for our wedding so it was incredibly incredibly disappointing to not only not have the amenities and hotel service, but to have the hotel staff care so very little.
I would not recommend this hotel at all if you have an illusions of customer...
Read moreOur family recently stayed at the Hyatt Centric, The Pike in Long Beach. This was our first day at this hotel. We had high hopes after reading the reviews. Sadly we found ourselves quite disappointed. We were celebrating our daughter 30th birthday and wanted it to be special. As soon as we arrived, we learned that one of the elevators was broken and the other one was "slow". This put one of our family members on edge due to elevator anxiety. We did not really like the decor in Hyatt centric. Everything was very dark and nautical-themed. Not warm or welcoming. The rooms were the same way. The walls were dark and our view was pretty much staring at another building. I hope management reads this and considers refreshing some of the decor to make it a little warmer and inviting. A couple of hours into the trip we went up to check out the rooftop pool that was supposed to be a highlight of our stay. There was an incredibly bad odor coming from either leaking propane tanks or a fire off in the near distance. But it didn't actually smell like a fire. The scent was so strong it was nauseating. Staff members were also looking around and showing concern. The pool water was cloudy. I got in anyway and then was really grossed out. The entire edge of the pool shows dark oily body scum. Basically, I guess, that's what it was. I grossed out and got out. Shortly after that, both elevators broke down. No out of order signs were posted. That's when mayhem ensued. Many customers were complaining and needing to change rooms. I also needed to change rooms because my husband was just recovering from a double knee replacement. There's no way he could walk up and down 7 flughts of stairs.
Thank goodness for Makenna, the front desk clerk who was basically holding down the fort, dealing with all of the customers complaining and stressed out. She handled it like an absolute pro. The way she kept her cool, showed compassion and understanding,, along with absolute professionalism was masterclass. I thoght she was tha manager. She took care of me and my family members. She made sure everything was taken care of. She helped coordinate another hotel room for us over at the Hyatt Regency because we needed a low floor room. She worked with little over at Hyatt Regency and they work together to ensure our daughter's birthday was not...
Read moreStayed here on business. To summarize I would say "not bad". However, it certainly doesn't elevate to the level that I expected. A part of that is due to the Long Beach area decline, but also to the choices Hyatt made in room design.
Service at this location was good. I felt it was adequate for what it was. The staff were friendly and during some hours, there was a "door man" to open the door for you. It wasn't at a high level of luxury or care, but I felt it was adequate and I didn't have to "test" it with special needs.
The room had it's pluses, but several minuses. The good: TV was great (casting option works seamless). Internet was very fast and suitable for work and streaming. The bad. The layout of the room was not ideal (1 king bed). The bed location puts you within an earshot of the A/C and heating unit. If you are a medium to light sleeper, you will have to turn it off during the night. There is no office space. No desk/chair. Just some cushion that is supposed to be a chair for the nightstand to work at?? My view out the window was rooftops. To be fair I didn't expect a view nor did pay for one. Also my litmus test for a hotel room is when I enter it shouldn't have any sign that someone stayed there. I don't feel this rose to that level of clean here. While it was by no means dirty, there was evidence of residents past.
The location is close to a lot of things within walking distance. However, downtown seems to have it's struggles like most cities and it's very apparent here. I did not feel safe at night and during the day, was approached several times by individuals asking for money (not violent or forceful). There is a minimal police presence and for being a tourist area, enforcement seems to be a problem. Graffiti is widespread and walkways around the picture-esque area (Rainbow Lagoon) are often blocked with sleeping individuals.
Ultimate question: Would I stay here again if I were in Long Beach? Answer: No. To me it just didn't rise to the level I expected. However I think this would be ok for a...
