I stayed at The Broadlind in downtown Long Beach for a week, and it honestly felt like home. Mornings were my favorite—sipping coffee in the penthouse and looking out at all the downtown Art Deco buildings. The kitchen was perfect for making breakfast or heating up leftovers, and there’s a cozy communal spot downstairs where you can hang out or get some laundry done. Plus, it’s walking distance to so many amazing cafés and restaurants. Carrying our luggage up 4 flights of stairs wasn’t fun, but every time we opened the door to those views, it was completely worth it. Full Disclosure: This was my personal experience I was happy to share. I paid for my own stay. #longbeachcalifornia #1920s #uniquestays

If I were truly just a “disgruntled customer,” why would I wait three months to post this review? The issue is not what you stated, but the fact that I continued receiving emails stating, “Please update your credit card details for the security deposit,” long after I vacated the property and paid in full. These messages and the unauthorized charge attempts only stopped after I blocked them through my bank and filed official complaints I stayed at the Historic Broadlind Hotel and checked out in June 2025. That should’ve been the end of it—but it turned into a nightmare. During my stay: • The bathroom was covered in filthy black sewage splatter from a plumbing failure (I have photos). • There were roaches in the room—also documented. • Management was unhelpful, dismissive, and refused responsibility for my damaged belongings. • I was told “we’re not responsible for personal items” and offered a vague room transfer after the damage occurred. After my stay: • I received over 50 emails pressuring me to update my credit card for a deposit that was never owed. • They attempted to charge my account multiple times, forcing me to call my bank and block them. • Even after acknowledging it was a “system error”—they kept contacting me. I gave them multiple chances to fix this. They failed. I’ve now: • Filed complaints with the BBB, CFPB, and California Department of Consumer Affairs • Kept all evidence and communication for potential legal action This hotel is unsanitary, unprofessional, and unsafe. Do not book here. If you’ve had similar issues, I strongly urge you to report them as well. Edit: This statement is false and defamatory. I vacated the property over three months ago after paying my stay in full. The issue is not “nonpayment” but the repeated harassment and multiple unauthorized attempts to charge my bank account since my departure. These actions have been documented with my bank, and I have reported them to the appropriate federal and state agencies. Furthermore, I was legally a resident for the duration of my stay. If there had truly been any issue with payment, management could have lawfully served me with a 3-day notice to pay or quit at any time. No such notice was ever issued, further discrediting this false narrative. It is worth noting that in nearly every one-star review of this business, management responds by dismissing the review as “false” without offering any actual evidence to support their claim. These reviews often describe similar issues — deceptive practices, refusal to address legitimate complaints, and continued attempts to charge customers after they have left. This pattern is consistent and well-documented across multiple independent reviewers. My review is accurate and supported by evidence. I will continue to pursue all available legal remedies.

Overall, the property is a truly charming getaway with all the architectural character I love, situated in a conveniently walkable downtown location. We stayed in the penthouse suite for a girl’s trip. Since I had never really stayed in a penthouse suite before (because, um … fancy!), I didn’t realize it meant a hike to the top of a lotta stairs. I missed the Broadlind’s disclosure about not having an elevator due to its 1928 origins. (As such, it’s also not wheelchair accessible if that’s an issue). Otherwise, the penthouse is a beautiful choice. Its open-layout has a ton of natural light, a full sized bed and a modern fold-down couch. There’s a real kitchen with a fridge and cups and plates coffee for the little coffee pot, a private bathroom, closet (complete with a chest of drawers), and a full living room setup. It also has the cutest little alcove area with barstool seating and some gorgeous arched windows for people-watching. The room’s decor was fresh and modern, true to a beachy vibe that plays up the fact that the hotel is just a 10 to 15 minute walk to the city’s expansive ocean waterfront of shops, boats and pretty things at Shoreline Village and the like. The colors in the room were a calming mix of teal, blue and green accents anchored among variations of painted grey walls and furniture. The girls and I especially liked the hardwood floors below and the exposed beams above. As for the hotel itself - this place is pretty cool. It’s all self check-in, so there’s no big lobby, no bellhop and a private keycode buzzes you into the front door. I think that makes it fun and different. It evoked a certain … livin’-in-the-big-city vibe. I loved the air of independence it gave; like I really was a resident of the bustling downtown scene. I’m a blogger and received a one-night stay with parking compliments of the Broadlind for our review, but all opinions are my own. You can read my full review at twontow.com.

WHAT WE LIKED · We stayed in the Gorgeous Penthouse on the top floor and it was beautiful. The photos are accurate other than the obvious fish eye that makes all rooms look larger than they are. We stayed here for CaliVibes festival. I'm a sucker for the historic, eccentric, unique properties with architectural details so this was right up my alley. The kitchen had beautiful tile though we didn't make any meals there - you could have made simple breakfast, lunch, etc. Mainly we used the fridge to store our late night snacks and bottled water. Basic coffee service, dishes, and utensils were provided. The old windows are so lovely and all of them open but you will get the noise from the lively bar downstairs. We had plans to drop in to the Blind Donkey but the music festival really had us beat at the end of each day. The codes for the door and the room worked well. The bed was adequate but not amazing like some hotels have. I had no issues but hubby didn't sleep as well. The bed is in a nook so you do have to kind of crawl into the bed and that was not ideal but once my head hit the pillow, I was out. The Broadlind is surrounded by cafes and restaurants and there was a grocery store just a block or two away. Very convenient location for any events at the convention center or Marina Green Park.||WHAT WE DIDN'T LIKE · Check-in time is quite late at 4pm. I messaged and called the contact number provided in the email from Broadlind to ask if we could pay for early check-in ($45) on the day we arrived and never received a response to my phone call or my text message. I was happy to pay the fee if it wasn't too late on our arrival day to do so through the "contactless" system. I did not want to pay the fee and then not be able to check in because we didn't pay far enough in advance. I had read other reviews that mentioned issues when not allowing enough advance notice for the "incidental deposit form" to be completed before arrival. We had already done that, no issues, but now wanted to add early check-in, and ultimately, did not because of the complete lack of response. Resort fee of $35/day but there are zero resort-style amenities such as pool, gym, cafe, restaurant, or bar. No ice machine or vending machine on site. No cleaning of the room so no restock of coffee service or towels for a multi-day stay. The sofa bed was a futon and super lumpy. Blankets and pillow were provided but no sheet to put down. We found an air mattress but discovered very quickly there was a hole in it. No response to text message or phone call asking for replacement. We debated finding a sporting goods store to buy our own but ended up just roughing it on the futon. There was staff on site but they are quite stand-offish and will ignore you or act like they don't understand what you are saying to avoid helping you.||SUMMARY - I adored the property and the location but the excessive "contactless" policy is a complete turn off. If everything was perfect with the property, and management actually responded to calls/messages as indicated in the email we rec'd after paying our deposit, that might work. We won't...
