Came here for a friends birthday in early June so restrictions were still up in the air so this review might not reflect your experience pre-June 15th.
I really liked my experience here. Since it is Downtown Long Beach, there is a mindset of it being a less convenient experience because the roads are all one-way, some roads are blocked off for increased outdoor parking, the air is a little more lively, and of course parking is not free. Bo-beau sits in a more dense area so of course I had to park in one of the parking structures nearby which was a bit pricey, but since I came in a party of four was able to split it.
After parking, I went straight to Bo-beau, but since there was a capacity at the time I had to wait a bit because I did not have a reservation. I wanted to sit in the roof but of course didn't want to be picking. Once you put your name in, the restaurant will let you know if it is your turn via text but will need the entire party there (Which is a norm everywhere you go). The host told us that we could get seated in about an hour but we the text around 40-45 minutes later which was nice. We were seated upstairs on the roof (YAY) and it was an extremely nice experience. It was quite windy and chilly when we went but there were space heaters which helped alot.
We ordered some drinks, a handful of appetizers, and some of us got some entrees as well. The appetizers we ordered was two orders of the Brussel Sprouts and the Bulgogi Fries. They were both great but the Brussel Sprouts absolutely was the spotlight of the night. It was cooked perfectly and the drizzle of sauce they put on top was excellent. For entrees I ordered the burger in Medium. It was cooked perfectly and also came with fries.
Overall, I would definitely come back. The service was great, the wait was actually shorter than expected, the location is perfect (despite parking), and the experience of eating at a nice rooftop was perfect. The Brussel Sprouts, like I said before, is a must try when...
Read moreWent to try this place last night because of a recommendation from a friend and we arrive and wait 10min for a table up stairs.(no big deal said they are getting the table ready) when we get upstairs we find that they have about 6-7 tables open that I can see.(downstairs was not to busy either) so this place has multiple people running around doing different jobs. So we sit and look over the menu and finally get some service we order drinks and an appetizer, get wine, cocktail and a few beers we also ordered Calamari. Wine and cocktail had no complaints. My buddy and I got the beer and we take one sip and look at each other and go ok HOT BEER so I’m like maybe they had a huge rush and glasses did not get frozen again ok. Calamari arrived and I got to say has to be the worst most chewy Calamari that was frozen and tasted like it sat in the back and tried to reheat it. It was so bad we said something to the waitress and we didn’t want to make a big deal about it and so waitress just left it and since it was over $20 for it my friend ate it just not to waist it. So by that time we have been here for 30 min and still waiting to order round two. I noticed since it’s slow the waitresses are all huddled in the corner talking. I had to get up go over to her and hand her my card to pay since she was not there to help customers. Even with such a bad experience I still ended up giving her a nice tip hopefully in my thoughts she will do better or this place will keep going down hill. For perspective my friend and his wife has been here for happy hour and said it was great in the past. Final thoughts this place had a great look and atmosphere. The decor and menu makes sense if you eat down stairs. Eating upstairs feels like a gastro pub and the menu did not fit that in my mind. Likely hood of ever going back. It would definitely take something extraordinary to happen...
Read moreGreat new addition to downtown Long Beach. It's a huge place, with a simultaneously rustic/modern/industrial aesthetic that somehow works. The downstairs is the more traditional dining area, with tables and booths, the menu wine-inspired, and the upstairs is a beer-inspired communal tavern with a more lively atmosphere. My friend and I got to experience both on the night we came, and while I enjoyed the more casual atmosphere upstairs, the downstairs had much to recommend as well. Since we got there pretty early (around 6ish?) we had no problem getting a table without a reservation, but we noticed that this place filled up fast as the evening went on--the word is out!
I just got Alex's Steak Tartare--all natural sirloin, toasted brioche, preserved lemon vinaigrette, frisee, chives tartare--and a glass of malbec. I don't know who this Alex is but his steak tartare was mighty tasty, and the wine was nice as well. I think my friend got the mussels and fries, which were really good. Our server, Katie, was really friendly and on the ball. After our small meal we headed upstairs for more drinks in the lovely alfresco setting. Most of the seating upstairs are of the communal long tables and benches variety (along with a huge long bar), but we managed to get some seats near the open windows looking down on Pine, which was nice. The only problem was that the wait staff tends to miss/ignore you in that area and it was a little hard to get service. This happened the second time I went there also, so I think it's that spot. Anyhoo, it was lovely nonetheless and I did like the beer-centricness of it all up there. I did get to try their "beeramisu" and their braised short rib flatbread the second time around and both were delish! All in all, a great place to enjoy a drink and a bite. There's a ping pong table too--I may have to try...
