The Hotel Royal is the hidden gem of Long Beach. I rented the Premier Loft for my granddaughters 4th birthday. We were there for 2 nights. It felt more like an air bnb than a hotel room. The bathroom was spacious, high ceilings, loft style, 2 queen beds and a sectional that was quite comfortable. It has a full kitchen with full sized refrigerator as well. The exposed brick gave the whole room some real charm. Living in Washington state, I had full assistance of the hotel staff on getting the "birthday" room ready for my granddaughter. They were more than accommodating and went WAY above any expectations that I was expecting. They prepared the room with decorations and had everything set up before arriving. It was very secure and my whole party felt safe. Yes, there are some homeless people around, but that is a problem everywhere. And, was there some noise? Yes,....because you're on freakin' Broadway in Long Beach. This is a 100 year old building and the rooms are smaller (not the Loft) and there isn't an elevator but the charm and the richness of the history out weighs the slight complications. We all went for walks throughout the neighborhood and felt completely safe. Parking is included with the loft and was ample. We visited the Queen Mary, aquarium and did a harbor cruise as well. All were within minutes of the hotel. We cooked dinner and breakfast as well. The staff were so friendly and helpful that I will DEFINITELY be staying here again when in town. Now for the nit picky things. -It would be nice to have dinnerware and cups and mugs for 5 people in the Loft. (It accommodates 5) -Some extra cookware would have made everything in the kitchen perfect. -The vent in the bathroom didn't work. Besides these imperfections, I can't knock them them for anything else. The WHOLE experience was amazing and I will be staying there with my family again. Thank you Hotel Royal for...
Read moreWas looking for a place to stay 1 night before embarking on my cruise 9/15/18. I choose Hotel Royal because they had pretty good reviews. I made reservations and paid online for my stay. It was a bit higher than I would have liked to pay but I was cutting it close to the date of arrival. I was quite pleased when my daughter and I arrived. First impressions - it was like a New York apt. style. Danny at the front desk was very pleasant and explained all the amenities. We arrived about 7pm and was hungry and Danny recommended some places for us to eat. He also helped carry our luggage to the room. Beware, there are no elevators. Entry/lobby was clean. They have a small kitchen/dining area towards the rear, where they served continental type breakfast although, it is a complete kitchen equipped with all the appliances and cookware needed if you wanted to prepare a hot meal. Our room that was located on the 2nd floor was clean. Bed linen and towels were also clean. No bugs. I booked a room with our own bathroom as they do have shared bathrooms on each floor. Water pressure for showering was decent. There was a small fridge with 2 water bottles, complimentary. Also free coffee and tea with a coffee maker in the room. The air conditioning worked very well. There was a dry erase board on the wall in the lobby where you could write a message on your stay there which I thought was cute. They also had bikes that was available at no cost, for you to ride around town. Our stay was very quiet, we really couldn't hear much noise outside. Lots of restaurants in walking distance. Front doors are locked at a certain time and a code is given to you to use another entrance door also fronting the building. All in all, I thought it was a very good stay and I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a short stay. I would have given it 5 stars, if there was...
Read moreI wish I could give this place a better review. It’s cute, it’s a great location, and it’s affordable. There are no elevators and all of the rooms are upstairs. I was prepared for this (thanks to reviews) and just staying one night so it wasn’t an issue for me, but this makes it far from ADA accessible.
The rooms are tiny and the place feels more like a European studio apartment or hostel/house.
In the Deluxe Queen room (one step up from cozy) there was a mini fridge, microwave, iron, blow dryer, a small tall table with two chairs and some space to hang clothing. The bathroom was very small with just a stand up shower.
My biggest issue is that there is a TV placed on the wall basically directly over the bed. I opted to take the side with the TV because my partner is much taller than me and I thought (incorrectly) that I would avoid it better. NOT the case.
I hit my head at least three times, and the last time was the worst. In the morning when packing up I really whacked my head hard on the corner of the TV. I have a lump on the side of my head and it’s been hurting all day. I’ve taken Tylenol (provided by the hotel) and been icing it. Ouch.
The on-site parking lot costs $18, it is down the alley, and not secure.
I would call this more of a “guest house” or “hostel” - NOT a hotel. There’s a communal kitchen that can be used to support that point. It’s clearly independently owned which I love, and the styling is adorable, but for me the cons definitely outweighed the pros and I will not be returning.
Other unpleasant things: 💀The floors were greasy. 💀The apartment smelled dramatically like unpleasant cleaner (my clothes still smell of it). 💀There were hairs in...
