Beware box office employees. This really bothered me. I went for the Jiu jitsu World League event in November 2024. Stopped by to do weigh ins in the morning, then leave and eat. Box office guy gave me a ticket but no wristband. This is my first time coming as a spectator to this location, so I wasn't aware he was supposed to give me a wristband. He gave me the ticket, thanked me, and that was it. This was at 7:30AM. Came back to watch the competition in the evening, and was told i need a wristband. I told them the guy never gave me one. They tell me I have to buy ANOTHER $20 dollar ticket because potentially I could have given it to someone else. I understand the rule, but the way they treated me was wrong.
I asked to speak to the guy and the lady said there were no male employees there, oh except for one she later admits was there. And she had been there all day and didn't see me. Duh! You didn't help me! Manager says it's weird I've been there all day but not come get a wristband. I don't know anyone who stays all day after weigh ins, unless they coach lol or have to. (My SO's match was at 6pm. We aren't going to eat convention pretzels and watch Bjj all day instead of explore LA.) Guy who served me closes his window before I can talk to him of course. Box office lady assumed I was lying because I couldn't remember what some stranger looked like exactly at 7:30AM. She was hung up on "maybe he had glasses" because no one there had glasses...Then she misheard me when I said "he" and told me I "you just said she" no...lady i did not. I work security, I'm not about to make everyone's life harder by lying to get into an event. I had no one else to even give my wristband to! It was just me and my SO. I was not about to drop $40 for someone else's mistake. I was eventually helped but not by these box office people who can't do their jobs correctly. The ONLY reason for 2 stars was for the kind helpful staff, who said they had this issue before (that day) because of them. Ugly behavior from these box...
Read moreMy family and I came to the Long Beach Convention Center for the 5th annual Midsummer Scream. This is an annual halloween convention put on by Rick West and his amazing team of White Bats. This event continues to grow and I feel like it has outgrown this venue. There were so many people that it was very challenging to walk around with a stroller. There were a lot of people 2 years ago, but it was manageable and stress free to walk around without feeling claustrophobic at times. This year's experience was frustrating. My guess is there was over 50,000 people there and for the big panels, tons of people would rush upstairs and overload the 3rd floor balcony, it felt unsafe and very, very claustrophobic to be up there waiting for the mainstage panels. There was no outside food allowed. This venue has about 5 or 6 food vendors and with thr amount of people there, it took about 30-45min each time to get food. There are a good amount of restrooms at this venue, bit there was one women's restroom out of order in a prime location and that added to the challenges. There is only 1 guest elevator to go between the 3 floors. This elevator holds about 6 people and 2 strollers comfortably so it's NOT a large elevator. Waiting for the elevator took up to 15 minutes at times. This was not a handicapped/ stroller friendly venue at all. Worst of all, this venue does not offer any supports for babies/new parents. There is no dedicated nursing area. There are no changing tables in the men's or the women's restrooms. We had to change our baby on the floor multiple times in a venue that was overly crowded. Midsummer Scream is an amazing event, but this venue is...
Read moreThis place needs help. The location isn't convenient for anything. Hotels, food, nothing. Getting in and out via taxi and Uber was a joke. Half the time they had no idea where to drop off / pick up, and signage was really limited. Multiple entrances weren't clearly labeled, or the signs were impossible to see until you were standing in front of them.
The layout inside is a cruel attempt to drive people insane ever so slowly throughout the course of an event. Upstairs, downstairs, which floor, how to get from one to the other, where the rooms are, nothing is clear or intuitive. Honestly someone who NEVER has to use this place had to have designed it.
It's impossible to get a phone signal inside. Everyone was complaining regardless of their carrier. Wi-fi was horrendous. Exhibitors were complaining for the whole event and the prices for "faster" connections were so unbelievably high, no one in their right mind would pay them. If I had paid for a booth I'd have lost my mind.
Because it's so incredibly difficult to get to restaurants from here, they bring in food trucks for meals. $20 for a hot dog and fries. Absolute madness.
I would truly skip an event if it were held here again. This place should be demolished immediately. If it were replaced with a chicken farm and it cost me $10k to exhibit my company surrounded by smelly animals and mud, it'd be an improvement. Seriously, it should be condemned and everyone responsible for it should never be allowed to work...
