Disappointing experience overall. This is a decent building, fairly clean and comfortable overall, and the price and proximity to the convention center is good, but it is poorly managed, as evidenced by several items. I stayed three nights during a convention, so I got a pretty good sense of what it's like. There were mostly little things like being informed at check-in that I needed to pay $15 a day to park a car, the pubic hair floating in a smear of goo on the bathroom floor, and the funky smell of my room, along with the incredibly powerful door closers installed on all the room doors that literally rattled the picture frames in my room every time a neighbor closed their door. But those aren't deal breakers, you expect a little of that in a cheap hotel. The things that pushed me over the top were being woken up at 10 PM on Sunday night after three days of working the event because they decided they needed to re-run my credit card, due to some procedural error on the part of the desk clerk. I was by then sound asleep, and not super happy about getting dressed and going down to the lobby to do that. The last straw was waking up with itchy bug bites on my legs. I don't even want to think about what those might have been - I took my clothing off in my garage when I got home and put everything I was wearing and brought with me straight into the washing machine. And I hope that's the last of that - could just have been fleas if I am lucky.
Most of these were by themselves not so horribly offensive to merit a single star rating, but experienced all together it was pretty bad. I was good and irritated on Monday morning about the credit card fiasco, left a message for Shawn the GM to please call me (he didn't), so I called him a few hours later to discuss. He offered a tepid non-apology, saying his staff needs more training, and attempting to justify waking me up by explaining a few times that it was really important that they 'capture the revenue' for my room, but nothing in the way of compensation or good will. It all just speaks to an overall lax attitude about cleanliness, courtesy, professionalism, and regard for guests.
I was surprised at my experience given the ratings others have left, and perhaps mine is an isolated case, but I'd personally suggest that you stay elsewhere. But if you find the price and the location too tempting to resist, consider bringing along earplugs, bug spray and possibly disinfecting or deodorizing products...
Read moreStay away from the Long Beach Best Western Plus near the convention center! They will charge you a smoking fee even if you do not smoke. It is ridiculous how they discriminate against medical patients. No ashes or any evidence that we smoked in the room. All the evidence they said was that it smelled. Well, we keep it in a jar in our suite case. I'm sorry our medicinal smells potent. I understand there is a $500 fee if an alarm went off--which never happened cause we did not smoke in the room. If there was smoking in the room, it states the minimum is a $125 charge, highest will be $300. The only thing the manager on duty can say is "this is a non smoking property and there is nothing we can do about the charge." We understand it's a non smoking property. Where the hell did the $500 come from? Oh, her statement on the charge is now for cleaning fees. And by cleaning fees, she means spraying Febreeze?
So then afterwards I asked about a scenario on how if I did smoke cigarettes, but left an empty package on the table, would I still be charged a smoking fee. Again, all she had to say was "this is a non smoking property." Shady business practice to get more money out of their customers. We are business owners ourselves and practice good business. Very sad they have to nickel and dime the customers.
Very low pressure toilets. The A/C didn't even work--we only checked in for a day, so this did not bother us. No fridge. The key for the door never worked on the first--or fifth--try. They offer free WiFi, but guess what, outside of WiFi area. So no internet at all.
They charge $10 per day of parking in their private lot. Double dipping in fees. We will not be coming back or recommending to anyone. Take your money to either the Hyatt--where are friends stayed at--or The Westin. They have better customer service and...
Read moreA distressing experience marked by pest issues and poor customer service, leaving us feeling unsafe and unwelcome.
After finding cockroaches in our hotel room it was truly hard to like anything about this property afterwards. I recently stayed at the Best Western Plus and had a distressing experience that I feel compelled to share. During our stay, we discovered cockroaches in both the bathroom and sleeping area, which was especially alarming as I have a four-month-old baby. Naturally, my primary concern was the health and safety of my child. When I approached the receptionist about the issue, I was informed that a refund was not possible because I booked through a third party. The best he could offer was to change our room. However, I expressed my concerns about whether the next room would also have roaches, and he couldn't provide any guarantees. Given that it was late at night and there were multiple events happening, we reluctantly agreed to switch rooms rather than risk an unsafe drive. Unfortunately, the anxiety of the situation kept my husband and me awake as we monitored our baby, fearing more pests could appear. The next morning, I hoped for some resolution at checkout. I saw the manager in his office, but he chose not to come out and address us directly. Instead, he communicated through the receptionist, which felt dismissive and unprofessional. If I were in his position, I would want to apologize personally and ensure guests felt heard. This experience has left me feeling disgusted, disappointed, and upset. I will not be returning to this hotel or any affiliated properties in the future. I urge potential guests to consider these issues...
