I agree and second that this library is conveniently located, and looks clean but it is not welcoming. As I entered there were 2 staff members sitting at a desk facing me. I had to greet them as one gave me a side eye and the other just stared. Not sure if it’s cause I have a darker complexion and had my backpack on that they didn’t even greet me. I was the one that said hello, and one girl that gave me the side eye just had a flat “hi” and walked off. The guy sitting down just said “hi. Is it possible to fold your scooter?” To which I just said “you want me to fold it. Ok” Then he just stared at me the whole time and watched me walk in. There was NO “thank you, welcome”. To read similar comments is validating. Customer service is poor if “you’re the wrong complexion” pretty small library too. Not many options for sitting/studying. No plug...
Read moreLittle Tokyo Library is one of the great jewels of Los Angeles. The plethora of books and magazines at this location are exceptional. I am a Japanophile and get sated with a visit. I do not go regularly because I live quite a distance but I guarantee it will be worth your while if you are in a similar position. Additionally, everyone that works here is very pleasant (unlike some of the other library branches in LA and surrounding area). You are sure to find some very interesting and unique books. Why bother you ask: this library has a decent amount of books and magazines in japanese. Even the magazines (some of the best I have ever seen) are there for your perusal. Bonus: parking is convenient for 1.5 hours (so great considering it is in the toy district and parking can be hard to...
Read moreGreat Japanese collection at this library in Little Tokyo. If you love manga or have an interest in all things Japanese, this is ground zero for you. For me, I perused the cookbooks and picked up a few. More than a few. Actually, as many as I could carry.
There were some security personnel on hand while I was there, which appeared necessary to deal with some "issues." All libraries are attractive places to hang out for some that don't have other places to hang out. Tough issue for all, but it seems like they are handling it humanely.
That being said, I highly recommend visiting the special collection here. And, you are right in the heart of Little Tokyo - with amazing restaurants, shops, galleries and the...
