Calichilli Los Angeles is a true gem that masterfully blends modern and traditional Indian elements, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. From the moment you step in, you can feel the personal touch of the owners, who have poured their passion into every detail of this beautifully designed restaurant. The interiors strike a perfect balance between contemporary elegance and rich Indian heritage, making the dining experience even more special. The food is simply outstanding—modern Indian cuisine at its finest. Every dish is a delightful fusion of bold flavors, creative presentation, and authentic Indian spices, elevating the entire dining experience. Whether you’re a fan of classic Indian flavors or looking for something with a fresh, innovative twist, Calichilli delivers on all fronts. To top off an already incredible evening, we had the pleasure of enjoying dinner with comedian Amit Tandon, who brought his signature charm and humor to the table. His personal interactions made the night even more memorable, adding laughter and warmth to an already fantastic ambiance. Calichilli is a must-visit for anyone looking for an extraordinary culinary experience in Los Angeles. It’s not just a restaurant; it’s an experience filled with culture, flavor, and hospitality at its best. Highly recommended!

The restaurant is very clean and the service is great. They use OpenTable, they take card, and you can pay the bill with a QR code which is super convenient. I went for Dine LA and had the following: -Pesto Paneer: mild in flavor, the texture and density of the paneer was slightly firmer which I prefer; the peppers and onion added great flavor to the pesto. -Cali Sticky Ribs: the sauce isn’t too sweet and the spice level is also mild; the meat was very tender and came right off the bone. -Chicken Vindaloo: the chicken was moist, the curry was very flavorful with a medium level of spice. -Vanilla Panna Cotta: a cute little gelatinous/custard treat in a decorative mold shape with a berry sauce that wasn’t too sweet and a few strawberry pieces; a perfect smaller portion after a heavier meal.

Visited Cali Chilli in DTLA for dinner and had a mixed experience. The dahi sev puri was underwhelming for the price and could have been better with more flavorful chutneys. On the other hand, the paneer pot pie was enjoyable, and the warm, soft garlic naan was a highlight. I also tried their Cali Chilli Powerhouse and Tropical Fruit Punch, both of which were refreshing. For dessert, I ordered the kulfi—it was beautifully presented, but unfortunately it was rock-hard frozen and had to be canceled. The ambience was nice, but overall the food didn’t quite meet the Michelin-star reputation or the price point of the dishes. That said, I might give it another try in the future to explore more of the menu.

Finally, a true Indian restaurant abroad that does justice to Indian cuisine! Cali Chilli (DTLA) serves authentic, delicious food in a modern, upscale ambience. The Paneer Tikka Masala, Peeli Dal, and Amritsari Kulcha were outstanding. Clean, classy décor, good lighting, and excellent service — no gimmicks, no clichés. Strongly recommend!

🍽️ Detailed (Yelp/Tripadvisor style)

Most so-called Indian restaurants abroad spoil the name of Indian cuisine with poorly prepared food, tacky décor, and average service. Cali Chilli in Downtown LA is a rare and refreshing exception.

The food was absolutely authentic and flavorful — the Paneer Tikka Masala, Peeli Dal, and Amritsari Kulcha were prepared to perfection. Each dish felt homely yet refined.

The ambience was upscale, modern, and thoughtfully done. Pleasing décor, warm lighting, clean tables — and importantly, none of the outdated “snake charmer” stereotypes you often see elsewhere.

Cali Chilli combines authenticity with class, and I would strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a genuinely great Indian dining...

I ate here 3 weeks ago with my in-laws. It took close to 1.5 hours to get our food order in. Luckily we had been given a seat. We saw other groups waiting for an empty table to get set-up for over 30 minutes.

There was only 1 waitress (who also acted as the hostess) -- who was working extremely hard and trying her best. I do not blame her for any of this and honestly was impressed with how she was dealing with so many tables at once single-handedly. The food was good when it finally came out but we had been sitting for 3 hours and the majority of the time was just waiting (probably spent 20 minutes scarfing down our food). It was hard to enjoy our experience here, since it felt like the restaurant's management had only hired 1 waitress who was overworked when management should have either helped her or hired...
