Seems like there’s a mix of reviews of this place. I thought it was good if not exceptional—lots of goodies in the ramen, so much that I am taking most of it home as leftovers. I did add egg and chashu to my miso ramen. Expensive but I anticipated that going in. Spice-wise I ordered a 4 but if I ordered again I think I would have done a 3; 4 had hardly any spice. I like spicy, just not so much it overwhelms the other flavors, ymmv. The waitress was busy but helpful. I noticed some reviews claiming the taste isn’t any good due to the number of Mexican customers and cooks in the kitchen. 1) I think it’s fair to complain about the authenticity of a food without pinning the problem so disdainfully on a particular ethnic group. (Also I have eaten at my fair share of “Mexican” restaurants in East Asia and none of them were any good, this is just what happens when you export cuisines to different places.) 2) If you have a problem with Mexican cooks, have I got some bad news for you: most restaurant kitchens in America run on Mexican or other Latino staff, no matter the cuisine and no matter whether the food is good, bad, or exceptional. It hardly seems fair to pin the taste of a restaurant’s ramen on the ethnicity of its Mexican cooks, especially in LA!

Easily one of the places to avoid when visiting LA. It was well known for their spicy level challenges (back when they were fun) but it's not as great. Avoid the Sunday dinner crowd or weekend. I just find this Ramen spot to be over rated. They took down their collection of photos of the spicy noodle challenge winners and compiled them on a monitor. If that makes any difference.... Nostalgia is gone Menu is not too extensive. There are soup bases from shoyu, salt, miso to vegetarian. You can choose a spicy level from mild all the way to extra spicy. Although this takes the cake for offering those who enjoy spicy soup. It just lacks the quality of the Ramen and experience for those who don't really have a taste for spicy soup. My vegetarian Ramen was below average. I'd hate to say this but there are a number of Ramen and Japanese restaurants surrounding the area that you can enjoy. The wait just isn't worth it especially when service isn't great. PS it's located second floor up the flight of stairs in the plaza Yelp Reviewer Elite https://www.yelp.com/user_details?userid=zFWfw9zh2lo1N43kf8yWRw&utm_source=ishare

Their service went straight down hill. This place was once one of the best ramens in DTLA. Food is okay. It's salty. The bad part is the service. When we went in, a young server directed us to a table. We ordered a curry cheese gyoza dish and other dishes. The food did come quickly. The place was relatively slow(maybe 30% occupied), but our gyoza didn't come for a while. When I tried a piece, I didn't taste any curry nor cheese. So I stopped the waiter and asked, "is the curry cheese gyoza supposed to taste like this? He said "Oh no, it is not curry cheese gyoza, but it's regular gyoza, we are out of cheese." I went "What the f@#k?"(in my head)" They didn't say anything when we ordered, nor they didn't come to our table to let us know they are out of it. They just swapped our order to regular gyoza without asking and handed us. Is this a new norm??? I felt the business doesn't care about customers. I cannot put my finger on a particular thing. I didn't feel any passion for food. The place was clean but nothing special. The service was heartless.

Hmm Spicy Japanese food. It doesn't sound possible. That's like saying Fat Free Soul food it doesn't exist. Japanese food is not spicy, but it is when you go to Orochon Ramen. This must be an American take on a Japanese item, because I recall my friends from Japan don't eat anything spicy.

I was extremely excited to try out Orochon. I decided that I would not take on the Special #2 Challenge. I have been burned before by Atomic Wings and no matter how it taste on your tongue your stomach and the rest of your digestive system is what suffers. Besides, if I wanted to truly suffer I would just watch Oprah or Sex in the City. I was tempted, but instead decided to go with Orochon #3. WEAK! I know.. considering its all about the challenge. I was hoping for some tasty soup. Instead it taste like burning. Even though I know I can do a higher hottest rating, I felt disappointed. The noodles were soft and cooked right. The soup was so-so and was filled with a few bean sprouts and a few slices of meat. I didn't mind the lack of meat, which is normal for most ramen places. COME ON! I heard these bowls are huge. I was expecting something like a Super Bowl of Pho, but nah it was more like one handful of noodles and some okay soup.

The soup did not flow with the spice. If you have ever had Korean spicy noodles, that's doing it right. The spicy and soup base should flow together naturally. It should not taste like soup that you accidentally spilled a bottle of hot sauce in. Because of the peppers and spices, the soup tasted like Mexican and Japanese fusion. The flavor did not taste like Japanese food to me. Looking around the restaurant I noticed some sad faces. A few people had a "I only came here because I watched Man Vs Food" look. They also had the expression of "Is this it?". I notice some people started to order sides or more noodles. The restaurant was pretty quiet. I only heard the noise of lazy servers sitting in the dinning area talking and occasionally dropping what they were carrying.

I don't think I will go again. I expect higher standards for Ramen especially if you are located in Japantown in LA. Try Costa Mesa or Rowland Heights for some good Ramen. Unless you live walking distance, the drive is...

Came here Friday on my wife's insistence (she's been taking me for a quick minute) as honestly just had a rough day. BROOKE the name of the waitress that served us treated us with a nasty attitude and couldn't even be bothered to finish serving us. I have stomach issues and asked if I could get the child's portion and was told no so I said it's okay I'll just share a bowl with my wife could we get an extra bowl along with extra pork. Her coworker brings it out and we're there waiting a good 5 minutes for what we asked. BROOKE passed by us several times so we had to end up asking her coworker again for the extra bowl and extra pork...he brings out COLD pork that both my wife and I saw was out there sitting for a while. I'm honestly disgusted because it looked so nasty so my wife asks for new pork, she was denied so I asked if we could reheat it at least and the server just stared at me like I offended him so we changed our mind and sent it back honestly losing our appetite. We overheard him talking to BROOKE that we didn't want the pork that what should he do. She answered him rudely as if my wife and I are not within hearing distance of them. Acting like she wasn't the one who took our orders. I lost my appetite and patience and told my wife to leave we got up and walked out yes that's right we walked out because I honestly didn't even touch the food nor open the soda can they gave us. My wife had posted a similar review complaining and instead of apologizing for the poor service we received, the owner accused her of stealing as if we haven't been coming here repeatedly. We are not thieves I have no shame in admitting what we did because at the end of the day you don't get to treat people rudely and expect them to take it AND pay especially a business that deals in food. You have my wife's information I hope you intend to follow up because we have no reason to hide why should you or your rude incompetent waitress

UPDATE: almost 2 weeks of radio silence despite claims the owner would reach back out to me. Instead get the owner trying to cover up for her incompetent waitress, THE OWNER threatens me with video of us walking out like of course I did I'm not wasting my money on subpar...

First, bring cash because if you spend less than 20 you cannot use a credit/debit card. I was not told this until after I finished my meal. There was no sign stating this and the credit card logos (visa/mastercard) on the door would indicate that they take cards for payment for any amount but they do not. I had to use the "convenient" ATM inside the restaurant that charged me $2.50. A total scam. Price was a little ridiculous for the amount of food. Big bowl but little noodle or toppings. I added the charsiu for $2.50 and got one piece. I ran a Sapporo Ramen Shop and we had set prices for different noodles and we did not charge for extra noodles or toppings because that is what a proper establishment does. Miso broth was very very salty, noodles were under cooked and toppings were skimpy. I thought the "gyoza" was priced adequately until I received them. Five small little balls. After everything was said and done my bill was $13.75 ($16.25 if you charge the ATM Fee). I am normally a large tipper but I left a buck and some change and I still thought that was too much. Service was horrible. I had three different servers. One who took my order, one who brought me my food, and one who bought me my bill. The one who brought me my bill had the worst attitude. The white girl who said she cannot take my card and who said it was the owner who refuses to take charge cards if under $20. I am pretty sure that it is illegal to not accept a type of payment without posting there policies on the door. I will never ever go back to this place and I recommend that no one go here. I have had better Ramen at the Mitsuwa Market and at a better price. Actually, don't take my word and go there for yourself and see how...
