When I arrived to pick up the car, I was hit with a surprise $14/day mandatory liability fee—something that was never disclosed upfront. While I reluctantly accepted and signed an itemized agreement, that fee should’ve been clear from the start.
The car itself was fine and ran without issues for the three days I had it. They took detailed pre-rental photos, which felt more like a Turo experience than a typical rental. I returned the car with a full tank and on time.
That’s when things went downhill.
During the return inspection, an employee pointed out a tiny smudge that wasn’t in the original photos. I honestly thought she was joking—it was such a minor mark, it looked like it would wipe off with a damp cloth. But she insisted on filing a damage claim.
I was then asked to fill out a long form with basic info they already had in their system—while I was rushing to catch a flight at LAX. They also demanded my insurance info, which I didn’t have on me, so I had to scramble to get it. When I explained how stressed I was, the woman eventually let me go and said I could follow up later.
Soon after, I got an email with a copy of the rental agreement—but this version wasn’t signed by me and had a $300 charge added to it with no explanation. I sent in my insurance info and they filed a claim, but I never got a clear answer about the $300. After multiple emails, they finally refunded it.
The alleged "damage" is barely visible, and when I asked if they could just wash the car to see if it came off, they pointed me back to the same laughable photo they sent to my insurance.
