First of all the name of this place is funny, I can never remember this guy's long name, then when you go inside there's a big placard that just says he was an avid user of libraries, like that's all he did to get one named after him. I'm pretty sure everyone in the library is really stoked on libraries.
But secondly, places like these are a prime example of your tax dollars hard at work for not much of a payoff. There's at least 5 librarians here I'm sure pulling in like $30k/yr, two cops there to hold the crazies down when they get too excited from "reading books", that's another $50k/yr at least each, because babysitting homeless people is way too big a job for the librarian, a security guard, or just one officer of the law, that's a 2 cop job. Who are they servicing? Maybe about 5-10 homeless people basically. Who knows how much the other expenditures are. So you do the math, tons of tax money being blown for these few homeless peeps to watch movies basically. The cops aren't even good at it either I might add, they have to stand around all day playing on their phones hoping they get to use their guns on some unruly library goer, but their dreams of being a hero never come true. Just imagine the lack of job satisfaction that brings. The most excitement they get throughout the day I think is at the end when they get to firmly kick everyone out, as they displayed with me while I was waiting for my laptop to shut down 5 minutes before closing. "Let's go you're holding everybody back!" Might I remind you broski this is not prison, and it's not boot camp for the army haha! This a darn library, maybe try decaf. In his defense, he was probably held back a lot in school and it's natural for him to carry that into his later years.
Sure the library pretends to be busy with some classes they offer to make cupcakes or something to make it look like your tax dollars are really going to some kind of community enriching programs, but call me crazy I doubt many people are taking advantage of these great educational opportunities.
If you really want to be a service to the community just give them what they really want, and that is the WiFi on 24/7 and leave some plugs outside to power laptops. You don't even have to open the doors. The cops can go do something more productive like catch violent criminals, and with all the extra money you're saving, who knows what you could do with that?! Free coffee machine for everyone? An outdoor movie projector playing movies? (Since that's all homeless people do here anyway), outdoor showers like at the beach to wash the smell off these curious smelling library patrons, or who knows, a whole water park around the roof and into hot jacuzzis with the amount of dough you...
Read moreOn friday morning march 23 i returned library books and dvds to this library.the books i put in the inside book drop.the dvds i gave to one of two clerks who were engaged in a conversation with each other.at 2pm i noticed my books were still not cleared.i called the library and was given the head librarian whose first name is johnathan. I admit i was a little annoyed but with the right words anyone who deals with the public for a living can calm someone down. Jonathan hung up on me as i tried to explain why i was upset.i called back three times and he hung up on me each time as soon as i said his name.i then reached a different person who said they would take care of the books which they did and i said thank you.i then noticed a dvd which i had handed to the clerk was still in my record. I went to the library in person and after first telling me the dvd was not there it was then found under the counter and checked in.i went upstairs to speak to jonathan who refused to speak to me about the earlier treatment.he said i was loud and rude although i was calm and he was yelling and he said he did not want to talk to me.i asked for his last name and he covered his name tag and told security to escort me out which she did. I have been using the library for 50 years and have never been treated this way.i am an african american woman and i know if i had been white this would not have happened.it is a simple task to check in a library book.its not complicated and it should happen in a timely matter.if you work with the public you should be able to have a conversation with someone especially when the complaint is legitimate.otherwise you are in the wrong job.this head librarian ows me an apology and i willl be contacting the head librarian of the city of los angeles to see...
Read moreSelf service printer was down , I asked how to send print job and the kind of red haired blue or green eyed woman was nice told me how but five minutes later there was a brunette lady with black librarian glasses acted very rude I was on the page that said files Google drive etc and she said is this a iphone said she didn't know how to work my phone when there was a LAPD officer standing next to her I felt it was so aggressive she was very condescending she told me how to change my pin. I've experienced so many different things at every lapl library I go to now. I just needed my resume I felt targeted , I wish I could just print things in peace i told the lady thank you ma'am at end and didn't recieve a have a good day or thanks for visiting there was alternating people at desk in a few minutes why is a android different from a iphone? I suspect the homeless community is the reason for this environment. Can lapl also streamline a better printing experience? I felt very disappointed and disrespected for simply trying to print my resume and the young nearly middle aged lady made me feel inferior. I'd like a better friendlier experience at my Hollywood branch library. Also the police could help clear the way at the stairs too from loiterers that lady was very rude towards me just because of my phone and the print instructions online I was following word for word....
