The Harbor View in might be a good lodging choice for you. Depending on the building you stay in, you could have fantastic views of the downtown and harbor, across to the mainland. We booked a two night stay. Our room was on the top floor 4301 of the frontmost building, so we were pleased with the ambiance and it's location. The bathroom was very good, better than I expected. The bed was comfortable. It would've been nice if they'd had extra blankets stagged in the closet or dresser though. I'm sure they would've brought some, but when it's 12am and you think about it, do you really want to call down?
They do need much better attention to maintance. Our light fixture was flickering and touchy (bedside), and most importantly our outside patio door (supposedly new) didn't lock once we opened it. So, our room was technically not secure the ENTIRE time we stayed on the island. I called and reported it immediately (cause we noticed it 5 minutes after checking in). They said it'd be a bit till they could get to it (apparently that meant 3 days from then). We reported it AGAIN at checkout and their staff acted like it wasn't a big deal and that we had to be mistaken. "Just pull up on the handle". That is a huge reason I'm giving them a middle of the road review. It was our biggest complaint and they didn't address it. I shouldn't have to call you more than once, and when it deals with securing a room, it should be paramount. The island is safe, but it's the principle of the thing. Especially when you're spending $400 per night!
Sorry guys, I worked for a resort for the past 5 years, I'm well versed in the PC answers and the quick fixes. Tried them all prior to reporting the problem. The deadbolt was stuck open, even when the door was in the open position. Just send a maintence person and don't give excuses. . . .
This problem also lead to us being locked out of our room from the inside technically. Thier deadbolts on the interior have key holes. We mistakenly presumed the same key would open the handle lock and the deadbolt. So we locked the screen door after realizing the exterior bolt was stuck, and left for dinner, exiting down the outside steps. When we came back at 11:30PM, we found out the key in-fact was NOT the same. Did they mention it? Nope. The same kid who'd checked us in hours earlier came up and was trying to find the correct key to to open the deadbolt. I suggested just slicing the screen open if he couldn't find the key, and he had a look of terror in his eyes like that would just be unacceptable. Let me tell you, it will cost $10 to fix that screen because you didn't send maintance to address the exterior lock. Had you sent someone, they would've also been locked out and fixed that issue too!
After that fiasco, we had a nice stay. Their porter/bellhop was very friendly and efficient. Breakfast was solid, and they pack it for you in small bags to take and enjoy back in your room or on the grounds. There is a decent size cafe that you could sit in to eat it also, but many people were trying to get space from others, which was nice. They rent bikes reasonably and there is a small lunch cafe out on the lawn (we didn't try it, but it seemed popular with passers-by. The location is very solid.
Nice place, needs a full-time...
Read moreLocation of the hotel was good. Porters were nice, although the porter who took our bags from the hotel to the ferry on departure stacked the bags in a way where mine was crushed on the bottom, and it damaged the box of a souvenir that I had in there (not really upset about it, but could have been avoided). Front desk staff was generally friendly and helpful. We got the package that included ferry tickets, fudge, and tickets to the fort, and we had no issues at all. We chose the hotel because of its apparent relative value compared to other places on the island
We stayed in the guesthouse, the back building which is maybe 50 yards up the hill from the "main" road, on the top floor. The room was pretty basic, but clean and a decent size for myself, my wife and our daughter. We didn't have much of a view, technically we could see the harbor, but mostly we could see the roof of the adjacent building. I have never stayed on the island, so i have no frame of reference for comparison. It was fine for us, not really being in the room other than to sleep, but if you wanted to hang out in your room or relax on a balcony or porch (we didn't have one), you would want an upgraded room. We did not try the free breakfast, so I can't comment on that. Our experience was the room was comfortable and quiet.
My only real complaint would be the wifi. It did not work at all in our room, and was spotty at best on the rest of the premises. The front desk staff told us the solution was to come to the lobby and login from there, and then somehow the wifi signal would be stronger in our room? Again, not a deal breaker, as we were not on the island to be on phones and computers, but in 2020, you expect wifi to be an option. Especially as it seems verizon gets no data reception at the hotel. My only other little quibble would be the tandem bike we rented seemed to have leaky tires, ao I borrowed an air pump from the front desk to fill them, and they seemed to leak as we rode. Again, not a huge deal, but a thing.
Overall, not having a frame of reference of other hotels on the island, we were pleased with our stay at Harbour View, and would reccomend others to try it. The chef at Bills grill (Bill presumably?) gave us a great dinner reccomendation, so...
Read moreDoolen-Flynn wedding Sept 2, 2018 My wife and I chose the Harbour View Inn to host are Rehearsal Dinner and the welcome to the Island Mixer for our wedding. That choice was the perfect springboard to the wedding weekend and we couldn’t have been more pleased. Becky was our direct contact and she made the planning process effortless. We always felt we had a partner in her and that is a gift. We will always look back and think of Becky as one of the people who made this a perfect weekend happen. The general manager of the Inn Michelle also made us feel like family right when we walked into the property. She New we were making up welcome bags for our guests to the Island and she gave us a space to work in so we didn’t have to do it in our room. Every possible stressed that would come up was quickly dissolved by the staff at Harbour View. We had 2 separate reservations for our room and in between the 2 nights the staff moved our belongings to the next room and hung everything up while we were out. When we returned all we had to do is pick up the key. We had our rehearsal dinner and welcome mixer on the same night back to back. The professionalism of staff was perfect. They made all our guests feel well taken care of. The food was amazing for the rehearsal dinner. We went with the barbecue option which made everyone feel at ease and promoted such a feeling of family which was what we wanted. The space was indoor/outdoor which made the night perfect. They seamlessly turned over the room for the welcome mixer. The butler service of the food was great and the guests were so pleased with the quality. Again during this time Becky and Michelle were right by our sides making sure everything we needed was done. The energy of the Inn and the staff made this the perfect way to start the wedding celebration. We will always be grateful for what you did for us. Thank you and we can’t wait to see you again on the Island. Thank you Joe and Katie...
