The short guy at the entrance was going to rip my foreign ID just cause it was not made of plastic. He was also going to scratch away my photo from it by claiming he's never seen an ID like that (of course, cause it was a FOREIGN id, but his ignorance and probably some alcohol wouldn't let him understand the concept). My colleagues were shocked. I'm a 40+ yo guy, I could be his father. Be careful to your employees, if he ripped my ID he would have seriously threatened my return in Europe, which could mean getting sued by both the US government for destroying an official Visa-related ID (with all the occurring costs) and by my State (EU), especially cause my ID is considered my State's property actually. How do I know these things? You don't wanna know. After I showed him my passport he was fine with it (ofc my passport, like any other passport, was made of paper as well, but that seemed fine to him, lol?). Just to let you know, bouncers should CHECK IDs, not manipulate and alterate them, that's a federal crime. Use your eyes, get off your hands from federal IDs. I use to come here frequently with my group, never seen anything like that. We were...
Read moreAn awesome bar with attitude and personality.
Located in Madison's downtown, Genna's is unassuming on the outside and full of personality on the inside. There's a ton of good music and the crowd is lively. Expect a range of patrons.
Disclaimer: I went during a Green Bay game where the Packers won, so my review may be a bit biased.
Prices aren't shabby either. Expect $-$$ for drinks. Scotch and cognac options are surprisingly plenty. Scotches will range from your standard larger single malts to Johnnie Walker blends. Cognacs include Hennessy and Martell. There is also a good mix of Canadian, Irish, and American whiskeys.
The bartender was great. Tended to our needs and even walked to different tables to make sure everyone was taken care of. Wish I had gotten his name to include in this review.
AND THEY SERVE FREE SOUP. What other bar does that? It may not have been a daily thing, but it was perfect for the cold Wisconsin winter.
5/5....
Read moreThe bar itself is very cool and I have now gone three times hoping it is a place I can like, but the staff is so rude it ruins the whole thing. I usually don't even need to interact with staff at a bar, but here they constantly yell at you to not move one type of chair to another table on their patio, or no standing and drinking on the patio, there's no polite warning it's straight to yelling at you for some rule you can't possibly know. And I'm almost positive it's the owner leading this behavior. The bar tender won't serve you unless you put your mask back on, BUT doesn't tell you this just ignores you over and over despite the entire bar not wearing them. So disappointed in how these people act, constantly yelling at your customers, people should not all be looking around at each other wide eyed when your staff is on a tyraid. This was not just a bad night, it's happened every time. So disappointing,...
